Never thought I would see a position player mic'd up...

...and talking to announcers in the booth like they just did with Joey Votto during the entire inning on defense at first base. He had Ozzie on first the entire time and somehow managed to comfortably talk to these guys while staying focused on his game. That was very interesting, and Votto seems like a great guy.

Obviously they do that because some people like it. I don’t care for it myself. I heard one of the announcers say at the end of a half inning “I spent 7 hours in a bathroom with Joey Votto filming a commercial. We’ll have that coming up next”

No thanks. I turned it off.

Ozzie Albies has actually been mic'd up before. I think it was an all-star game so that's obviously different. I guess it depends on whether it's someone from "your" team or not. As a Brave's fan it came across as annoying on the national ESPN2 feed but I don't remember having issues when Freeman and Albies did it earlier. I've read several positive articles on Votto and David Letterman has an interesting interaction with him (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8BdhnvR7uRc). Even though I found it distracting, I will say the interaction with him may have helped a lot of fans get past the fact that Joey Votto looks like the mob hitman in every movie ever made.

I did noticed the interview with Snitker was not as informal or chatty. Snitker seemed to be more focused on the game and he seemed irritated by the distraction.
