Never

Jan 7, 2022, 8:06 PM

It is 35 at the dock, but here on the porch with a fire, 48.
I should go in, but hate to give up on a great day.
The music is too loud, the beer is to cold.

For the last few tunes been playing Dwight Yoakam. Can a California guy do Country? Maybe not the new crap, but he can do the old. Put a big hat on that boy and he becomes a star.

Dwight is one of my favorite country artist ever

Dwight is one of my favorite country artist ever. It’s too bad his kind of throwback country with smattering’s of rock didn’t catch on and now we have this god awful hip-hop country bro crap like Florida Georgia Line and Luke Bryan

I think it caught on...

” Yoakam has recorded more than 20 albums and compilations, charted more than 30 singles on the Billboard Hot Country Songs charts, and sold more than 30 million records. He has recorded five Billboard No. 1 albums, twelve gold albums, and nine platinum albums”

But I agree too bad the other crap has now taken over.

I felt that way once. I was jogging in the rain one night back before most here were born, and this came on my tiny radio.
Singled handed - John saved Country.
Any day now a new guy will arrive.

Thanks, that's a good one but nothing's better than, "I Sang Dixie As He Died". My favorite for sure!

Merle Haggard was born and died in California.

The Bakersfield Sound

Jan 7, 2022, 9:18 PM

Buck Owens and Merle introduced the Stratocaster to country music. My dad was a huge fan of both, so my childhood was filled with them. Big fan of Dwight as well.

Country music runs in cycles. For years it was Chet Atkins and the Nashville Sound, full string arrangements and such. Guys like Waylon and Willie getting fed up with that produced the Outlaw movement. Buck and Merle were distinct in that era. Then it was the schlock of the 70's and 80's, but along came Randy Travis, Alan Jackson, Yoakam and many others. This latest wave is pure garbage. But there's some great stuff on the alt scene; Jamey Johnson, Cody Jinks, Turnpike Troubadours, a ton more. That's where real country is now, not on the radio

Cannot go wrong with Dwight’s Bakersfield Beat channel on XM. Hope to get to him live someday.

Sir Douglas Quintet, Texas Tornados, and Ryan Bingham we’re on my playlist tonight out by the fire.

“Can a California guy do country?” Hate to break it to you but there are more cowboys and country music fans in California than South Carolina. It’s the part of California no one ever talks about.
