Need a strong finish to the 2022 Recruiting Cycle

Jan 22, 2022, 7:38 AM

We really need to finish strong and lock down a few more quality recruits. If we could land Paul, Dudley and Story I think that would savage what has been an incredibility difficult cycle. We currently have at least 5 signed or will be signing that over the past 4 years would have been PWO's. Even though the decommits down the stretch didn't look good I am stumped why we have seemed to lose some of our recruiting buzz. I really hope it isn't due to our inability to offer NIL deals. Just seems like something has changed.

I don't know why you are stumped. We had a dull season and we lost coaches. I think we are doing pretty well under the circumstances. Next years class will tell a lot though. I agree the NIL did help some other schools like Texas A&M.

Definitely worried about Paul and Story not signing, and already preparing for Godfrey to not sign. Hopefully we’ll be pleasantly surprised! Everyone going to the basketball game bring your Chick-fil-A bags of cash (way classier than the Tennessee McD)

With the exception of TJ Dudley, anyone that we get from this point is a project and/or longshot. I know, Beasley, Renfrow, ETN. I am not saying that one or two don't pan out. I'm saying that they are more likely to end up in the transfer portal.

Caden Story has decent ratings but he isn't going to come right in and play. He played at a small school, would not come in until the summer, and it will take him a while to adjust to playing with the big boys. If we do get him he will be so far down the depth chart that he will hardly see the field in 2022.

Andrew Paul is the 64th ranked running back by 247. He is so far down the board that nobody has even bothered to give him a CB to anywhere and there are only so many players left to talk about. He would be behind anybody on the team now, and that might include a walk on or two. The only way we see him finish his career here is if he goes somewhere else first and we get him in the TP later.

Dudley would be a big get for us, but even so, some of that is in the perspective that we are still trying to fill our recruiting roster at the end of January. If he had been an early commit in any of the 5 previous classes, he would be an afterthought at 247's 34th ranked linebacker. Though I think that we need some depth at linebacker, I still doubt that he would see the field much.

I hope that we finish as strong as we can, and hope that we make some good gambles. Now is when you get the players that aren't highly rated but you can find some with big upsides. I just think that finishing strong at this point means hiding the limp to the finish line the best that we can.

The good news is that none of those guys need to be ready

Jan 22, 2022, 12:03 PM [ in reply to Re: Need a strong finish to the 2022 Recruiting Cycle ]

..l to play for at least a year.

We’re flush at RB for two years. We will recruit a couple next cycle.

We have no holes in the DL for 2022. The return of everyone insures this.

The guys coming in who need to be ready to play are a 5-star QB and two 4-star WRs and maybe a CB.
