A relative's best friend has a fairly high profile job in Indianapolis working for the NCAA. She told us over a year ago that the NCAA is intimidated by North Carolina. I did not discount her statement completely, but thought she might be exaggerating .....apparently not. I now think that is nothing that they could do that would rate a penalty.

Doesn’t have the tools to defeat them in court. The NCAA only hammers schools that are willing to take the punishment without a legal fight, like Clemson in 1982. UNC is willing to take the NCAA to court and blow the entire system up if that is what is required. The NCAA oversight only works if the schools are willing to take the punishment, they aren’t a law enforcement agancy and they are powerless against a school that will not cooperate.

Since the NCAA says that have no control over academics, perhaps SACS (Southern Assoc of Colleges and Schools) should investigate. They are the organization that supervises schools and determines their accreditation. There certainly seems to be an egregious academic scandal here. Unbelievable!
