I mean, it's so out of control that I don't know how they think it's even enforceable, lol.

Right!!! That’s what makes this so hilarious, from the beginning it was meant for players to profit off of their NAME,IMAGE, and LIKENESS not here’s a blank check if you sign with us. Sad part is how many people fail to understand this, the NCAA dropped the ball big time there’s no going back.

What do you guys not understand about NIL? NIL is simple. An athlete can be hired to allow a company to use his or her name in advertising. The money earned is taxable and the school pays nothing. Easy to understand so far?

NIL will have little affect on sports because players will go where they can play if they have the talent to make it to the NFL, NBA, WNBA, MLB, MLS, PGA or LPGA. Players will not go to schools and sit on the bench so no school will stockpile athletes. Unhappy athletes will enter the Transfer Portal if they are not playing but that lesson will come later.

It's just the boosters from schools that pay the players.

Valley Boy I don't believe anybody has questions on what N.I.L deals are! That is the point the OP is trying to make here.

More to the point: "it's being abused" by the definition you gave VB!

There are schools out there that have alumni who aren't "following the playbook"! They are going off ###### and just dishing the money out and the athlete has to do "nothing"!

When they said, "hey player X can make money for speaking engagements, or autographing a jersey or selling off a pair of their shoes, etc I was okay with that. Even if the athlete used their N.I.L to let's say, advertise for a local car dealership or something, cool!

It was never intended to just be straight - pay to play! Though as many predicted; "it has turned into just that"!

You are exactly correct. You could see this coming from the very beginning. No way could it work for the betterment of amateur sports. Now, it’s to late to shut the barn door!

Naive opinion

Oct 26, 2022, 9:34 PM [ in reply to Re: NCAA “clarifies” NIL LOL ]

So a player is promised a deal with a clothing company for his NIL to be used on t-shirts ... with the additional promise that “X hundred/thousand” of his T-shirts will be bought by “Big Dollar Booster” ... and the money will go right into the player’s pocket.

Isn’t that pretty much a distinct possibility for how this whole NIL thing can be abused? The same big boosters who used to hand players money under the table now just pledge to buy large quantities of their NIL merch.

choice. It's like putting limits on their business thereby restricting or limiting their income. It will never hold up in court. If players can't get free help they will have to pay scouts and lawyers to negotiate their contracts and can show real damages rather than potential damages which wouldn't merit compensation.

The courts started this now they are going to be involved to the end.

No it isn’t it was never intended for the school to be a part of. Does a regular student have the same type of counseling no.

Why should the school provide the player with free accountants and attorneys?

In my opinion, the sport will lose its popularity

Oct 26, 2022, 11:23 PM

I believe by this time next year college football will be less popular and this will continue as a direct result of fans losing interest in my opinion.

I would like to revisit this next year at the end of October to see what has happened, in five years it will be mostly a tV watched sport rather than so many going to watch in person. We lost the innocence of college football being about getting an education, maybe the NFL and a great job after college as a good team player for the company of your choice.

I think college football will never be the same as it was where all the fans made a difference. Greed always taints the enjoyment of it.

It is already turning some people to find other means of entertainment.

The reason college football was better in many people's minds was directly related to the fact: "it wasn't a bunch of greedy players looking for more money"! Note: not my take; but rather the perception a bunch of people seem to have as it relates to the NFL.

If you basically make CFB the NFL - what happens to those fans who are turned off by the gross amount of money made for playing a game. Again, not my take. I feel like you should get a fair market value for the job you are doing. If the market is millions of dollars then; that's what I should get.
But, everybody does not share that opinion with me.

For those people; I see it turning them off. It will as you said Humble Servant - affect the way you see people showing up to watch games.

I don't have a problem with the NFL; or players making a bit of money even. But, there are limits to that even. When it gets to the point where it affects the play on the field; it becomes more of a distraction I don't care to deal with.
