Cost Clemson the game in Tallahassee when Ellington, Freeman and those guys were seniors. Go back and watch, or ask anyone close to the program what FSU did as soon as they realized he was out there.

Produce? Produced a book, that's about it. And got beat up by a kid like 10 years younger than him against UVA hahaha

I just have to agree with you my friend. Let's take a closer look:

1.) Fought for our country, watched his best friend die. Won a medal for bravery. Displayed, day in and day out, not sit on your couch watching tv bravery; but the real "kill the enemy, protect your brothers" kind. Put his life on the line for our freedom. Check

2.) Put himself through hyper-rigorous training in attempt to keep promise to himself and his fallen comrade in hopes of being accepted at any college. Check

3.) Was honored and respected by the coaches and teammates for his work ethic, effort and attitude in spite of being small. Check

4.) Lettered at Clemson University. Check

I agree that we all cherish and exercise our country's blessing of free-speech. Even speech that is misguided, ill-informed, stupid, cowardly, childish and/or indicative of likely deep seated emotional problems. It's still free. So exercise your free speech and trash this good man in public. Your still an idiot.

Go Tigers and all the values that our great institution stands for!

ALLOW ME TO EXPLAIN Daniel Rodriguez

May 12, 2015, 10:56 AM

Greetings:

I would to address some of the issues that folks have with Daniel Rodriquez and his recent success at obtaining a contract with an NFL team. Some of the fans at Clemson University have a lack of understanding of Daniel Rodriguez and other veterans alike.

I've heard a wide range of complaints about Daniel Rodriguez ranging from how he interacts with fans to how he treated women on campus. Some have even drawn up some ire over his comments about his playing time being political due to scholarships. While I've never witnessed any of the activity myself I would like to say that I sort of understand where he is coming from. If his comments or treatment of women come off as offensive it is simply because you lack an understanding of a returning combat veteran's mental state of mind. It's not your fault though because 90% of the VA Clinics and Doctors cannot even understand us. This would explain the failure at hand involving the VA.

So here is a breakdown of what it is like for a returning combat veteran. Maybe this will give you an insight on his general attitude towards life.

First, we return home with great expectation to start a new and successful life in a nation that we defended. When we come home, we have a harsh realization of the fact that our family no longer understands who we are. Our friends have grown apart from us and we no longer know anyone that we used to know. Our towns have changed and the people in them are complete strangers to us. So in our minds, we are alone yet surrounded by strangers who do not understand us because they are not one of us.

Next, we begin collegiate career in what ever our endeavors may be. We arrive at a campus with a majority of the student body being straight out of high school. We are around 23 and 24 years old when we arrive, and we are dealing with young adults who know NOTHING about life yet. These 18 and 19 year old teens have the mentality of liberal progressives with entitlement issues. Most are spoiled little cusses who still live on their parent's credit card, and have no idea what it is like to live independent of financial provisions from mommy and daddy. Try dating a girl who is daddy's little princess that gets what she wants because she is spoiled. These kids at college are out partying it up while we were getting rocket attacks and carrying the remains of friends at their age. So in essence we have nothing in common with the crowd. Luckily for Daniel he became part of the Clemson Football Team which is like family.

When we attempt to address the issues of our mental state of mind at the VA it is mission impossible. You go in there and they start analyzing you from the first minute you sit down. They don't listen to your symptoms or any complaints about what you are experiencing. They treat you like an assembly line and prescribe psychotropic drugs then send you on your way. The reality of it is this, the VA Staff does not really care about you. They are a drug dispensary to such the degree that a few of my friends have permanent brain damage from being over medicated. This is why 22 OIF / OEF veterans commit suicide every day. This is over 8,000 veterans committing suicide each year. I have lost 39 friends to suicide since 2011.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE.... I have probably heard this a thousand times. The reason why it seem so insincere from many is because they simply do not understand or realize what they are saying thank you for. It shows in the way they carry themselves and how they raise their children. It shows because they say it so haphazardly and do not really know what they are saying. Most merely say it because it is as popular as saying the expression, "how is your day?" Most do not realize what it is like to sleep beside the remains of dead friends because you couldn't get their body evacuated for several days. Most do not know what it is like to put body parts in bags on Christmas morning while spoiled children all over America are complaining about not getting what they wanted.

Not everyone is as lucky as Daniel Rodriguez, take me for example. I came home to a family that doesn't want me around because they do not understand me anymore. I came home to an ungrateful nation that doesn't care about the sorry direction that our nation is heading in. I've watched time after time the actions of others who do not care about the opportunities that America has to offer. Not only are you trying to transition into civilian life, but you are dealing with other health concerns that are destroying you everyday. Add that to the fact that you cannot find employment anywhere and now your wife is leaving you for some other guy who graduated college and makes more money than you. So now you end up homeless going to college like I was. I had to pay alimony, spousal support, with no income while living in a storage unit off of Woods Lake Road here in Greenville. I struggled with alcohol addiction, suicidal IMPULSES, and a general hatred for everyone that I came into contact with. This is why I quit college and decided to become a contractor overseas. It pays more than a college degree will ever offer and I can be around my own kind.

In short, if you haven't walked a mile in our combat boots then please sit down and shut up. Especially if you graduated from college while mommy and daddy paid your way through life to ensure your little life of success. Rather than thank us for our service, grab a rifle and some intestinal fortitude. Otherwise your opinion to us is not relevant to who we are or what we do.

"There are only two kinds of people that understand Marines: Marines and those who have met them in battle. Everyone else has a second-hand opinion." UNKNOWN

Chesty.....

May 12, 2015, 11:33 AM

I'm probably going to regret trying to respond to your brutally and tragically honest post but here goes... I was an Oncology Nurse my entire nursing career and I have experienced and am very familiar with tragedy, suffering and death. While I didn't pickup body parts on Christmas or sleep besides a dead friend I have had to be there while parents dealt with losing their only child at the age of 18 or administering pain medicine to patients in tremendous pain only to have them beg and scream for more and knowing I could do nothing. I never served my country in any armed conflict and I am not saying my experience is anything like that of a returning war veteran. However, I believe I do share some things in common with you which makes me very empathetic and completely understanding of what you posted. Despite our best attempts to portray ourselves as strong or being able to have a professional distance from our experiences.....it's impossible. Video games, the 24 hour news cycle among other things have made death so "Blaise", so common that most people couldn't possibily fathom watching, experiencing real death. I too have dealt with alcohol and prescription drug abuse as well as suicidal thoughts and ideations and have given up practicing my profession. Chesty Puller, you and your Marine, Army, Navy, Air Force and Coast Guard brethren are national treasures that have been treated terribly unfairly upon giving everything you had to give and for that I am sorry. It's sad but most of our society is so self-centered, "what can you do for me today"people that have neither the ability or desire to understand all that our veterans have had to endure. Sorry to drag this out but trust me on this one, in some small way, I get you, Daniel and all the others and I say, from the bottom of my heart and with all respect and gratitude, Thank you!

That is a sincere thank you.... I also appreciate hearing it from my fellow veterans when they say it.

Also Chesty lets not forget the ones who protect us at home. I know there are some rotten apples that give the Law Enforcement community a bad name but there are more good bad in that group and the good have to put up with all the bad repercussions. I hope all of you really believe me when I do say :Thank You for all that you have done and continue to do to keep us safe and protect our way of life.
