Judge, why the disappearing act after Clemson L's?

Mar 30, 2021, 9:53 PM

I really can't decide if you are a team manager, Josh Pastner, DRad or Mrs. Brownlee??

He did a great job answering questions. I was impressed.

My week absence was my first one after a loss.

Mar 30, 2021, 11:15 PM

Otherwise I was always here to read the troll posts and respond to attacks.

After this loss to Rutgers, I just wasn’t up for reading all of the vitriol that was sure to be here. I don’t find all of that fun or productive, especially on the heels of a loss that was tough to see.

Honestly, what could I have added to the conversation? People who already dislike Brad and/or me were not going to be influenced at all by anything I would have said.

That’s honestly how I’m starting to feel about being here in general. It’s a bunch of talking in circles and reading critical posts, over and over, ad nauseam. What’s the point?

Agreed on all points judge.

The end of the season was frustrating/infuriating. To me it wasn’t because of coaching. It was because our shooters didn’t make open shots needed to win games.

It seems that some people on this board can’t separate our great regular season with our last two losses. It’s wild to me.

2 things can be true at once. Our post season sucked, and our regular season was great (historically). We beat a record 8 tourney teams and didn’t lose to a “bad” team all year.

It sucks that Newman and O-max transferred, but we still have talent coming back next year. Hopefully we add a transfer or 2.

Thank you.

Mar 30, 2021, 11:58 PM

I agree, the postseason was dreadful and extremely frustrating, but it doesn’t take away from our great regular season.

The part I find frustrating is that almost all of the people who are complaining now were also complaining all season. It seems as if they made up their minds a long time ago that it didn’t matter how the season went, they had already jumped ship and were going to criticize the team regardless.

I remain excited about next year, and will be even more excited if we can add 2-3 transfers who can step in and be immediate contributors.

This seems poorly thought out. First, relying on threes as the entirety of your offense is a problem with coaching, not the players. Clemson is terrible in the paint and that goes to coaching and poor fundamentals. Yeah, the regular season record was pretty good. But it was a very down year for college basketball and was crazy given covid. But coaches bring it when it matters. Brownell does not.

Judge,

I may disagree with you on things here and there. We all have opinions and we are going never going to agree on everything. That said, the best thing I took away from my 7 Habits training is to value the differing opinion. That is one of the reasons I come on Tigernet, to have my eyes opened to the differing viewpoints. You very well may be correct that it often goes in circles, but I would encourage you to not let that deter you from contributing. I value you’re opinion and hope you continue giving it, especially when you feel like you are the only one who feels that way. Thanks for sharing!

Thank you! I agree with you, and also share your fondness of Covey’s work.***

Someone is going to have to explain to me how this is a notable accomplishment - one worthy of using to defend a coach’s tenure. Top 16 once, ONCE, in 11 years. Would that be good enough for football?

Let’s do this another way. In 11 years, the team has been to the tournament 4 times. That means we were outside of the top ~40 7 times. Add 3 NIT bids leaves 4 times outside of the top ~70. How is that acceptable?

I am not saying BB is the problem, but if not, what are we going to do to fix this? The administration bought into Dabo’s plan to remake the football program with investments. Why is the basketball team not getting more? We need to demand this get fixed.

Basketball is not getting more for two reasons:

1) the fans don't really care about basketball. It offers a nice diversion after football but we don't live and die with basketball like other schools who are basketball centric or we do with football. Said differently we are bandwagon fans who whine a lot about bball but don't really support the team.
2) Given the basketball landscape we would need to make a serious investment to overcome 110 years of being below average and even then it might not be enough. If you had $5M to invest in a Clemson sports program would you put it in the football, soccer, softball or basketball programs?

How much money does Clemson basketball need to be successful?
Just totally rebuilt Littlejohn and raised the salaries of the coaches. What do you need more money for? To buy players?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: My week absence was my first one after a loss.

Mar 31, 2021, 10:10 AM

I just did a little research on this and found that in 2018, we were 70th in expenditures on basketball at $6.9M. That was next to last in the ACC and far below the $11M in revenue.

By those standards, the program is perhaps slightly over performing. To me that is unacceptable, but that is just my opinion and reflects what is stated above, that the administration places little importance on basketball.

We Clemson Basketball fans have got to see and visualize that we can win a championship Most of us seem to be so excited about a 5th place finish and feel that is the best we can do We have got to start believing before we can do it Incidentally Brad is a great guy but his offensive philosophy will never get us there Yes in 11 years we are bound to have a few 5th places and below but a philosophy of running away from rebounds to get back on defense will not do it No inside game will not do it I saw a lot of great offensive schemes in the tournament but none quite like ours If we want to keep Brad require he get someone to run his offense

towards someone rooting for a Clemson sport. It's almost like some people here want BB to fail. It's a weird internet phenomena that I don't understand.

It's kind of like rooting against your kids team because little Johnny doesn't get enough playing time.

Re: For the life of me, I don't understand why the vitriol

Mar 31, 2021, 7:15 AM

People don't want BB to fail they're tired of the same thing. Some times frustration appears that way but as a Clemson fan I don't . I want to see us win in everything we can but a school like Clemson needs that extra oomph to get it over. We need an offensive minded strong recruiter that can bring in talent
. Players that may not be 5* but those that can flat out score and give teams a bad day they're out there we need a coach that can get them.

Re: Judge, why the disappearing act after Clemson L's?

I really want to enjoy Clemson basketball, rather in person or on T.V.

But I swear it’s hard to watch a team so consistently bad at offense. And in 11 years, your able to develop a pretty good read on what year 12 will look like.

And I’m fairly certain interest in Clemson basketball will be at a 12 year low next year. I believe at least 40 to 50 % are ready to part ways with our current coach. I am hoping someone makes him an offer he believes is attractive, and he goes the Shaka Smart route. Start over somewhere new and in turn someone comes into Clemson and breathes some new life into the program. Hopefully someone who has a good knowledge of the offensive portion of basketball.
