He's mentioned he may want to coach at one point. Why not now? He's got a son in our program and now may be the time. He's help continue our defense's tradition of smash mouth foozeball gents.

Right, because position coaches are never allowed to coach a position they never personally played... I guess that's why booksmart nerds like Josh McDaniel and Matt Patricia would never get position, much less coordinator jobs... oh wait...

There's a ton of technique involved with DL coaching, especially on the edges. It's not all brute force and speed. It's hands, angles, footwork. Being a HOF CB doesn't necessarily mean you'll be a legendary defensive line coach. Whoever Dabo selects, it'll be someone with years of experience coaching DL.
