My guess about the offensive game plan.

Nov 24, 2022, 9:45 AM

Disclaimer: I'm just a fan. I'm not qualified to develop a game plan for a junior high team, much less a Clemson game plan.

Here is my guess.

1. DJ ran a lot more last couple of weeks than he has before. So, I suspect the Clemson coaches suspect that DJ running will be an integral part of the offense for Clemson.
2. So I suspect the Clemson coaches will have a heavy dose of "zone read" looking plays where DJ keeps the ball but passes it, not taking off running, early in the game.
3. I suspect the Clemson coaches will be thinking the SC coaches are thinking that Clemson will try to establish the run game.
4. So I suspect the Clemson coaches will have a heavy dose of play action passes early in the game.
5. I suspect the game plan will be to
A. Use the threat of the run to set up the pass.
B. Then, when SC LBs quit crowding the box, use the threat of the pass to establish the run. (RPO, Zone reads, QB draw, RB draw)

But, in the end, I sure am glad Dabo didn't call me and ask for my advice. If he had, I'd be extremely worried.

Definitely could be the case. The question for me is which of these two will happen…
1) let DJ play lose and fast. Getting off to a fast start and putting them on their heels.
2) be more conservative hoping there will not any
mistakes that gives them momentum.

I got a feeling the offensive game plan is going to

involve Cade on a few package plays. This is the game Dabo would want to show off a bit in if it's happening. I just hope it works for positive gains.

Let’s hope that Clemson does all the things that UT couldn’t! I guess that would be everything!

I hope that DJ can get off to a good start in this game and I think that the coaches will game plan around that happening.

My biggest concern about this team is the turnovers. It has been a very unclemsonlike season because of these very untimely mistakes. That has to STOP now for us to finish 2022 in the correct way.

Without question Rattler must be kept in control. With the talent that Clemson has available that should be a given!

I think we should not call

plays that don't work and only call plays that do. BTW I sent my resume' to Dabo... expecting to hear back any day now.

Gamecocks defense is awful. Near the worst in the country. If we don’t run it 50 plays then that’s a mistake and we fooled ourselves. 50 run plays and less than 2 turnovers wins the game for us.

All I want to see is two things throws to the middle of the field and win the TO margin. If we do that, our defense will do the rest.

Agree on turnovers.

Nov 24, 2022, 10:08 AM

This seems to me to be a game where the talent level is so different the only way Clemson can lose is to turn the ball over.

Similar to FSU game. Noles don't turn the ball over and we win.

I like your theory about the reverse psychology. It would be awesome if we could catch them off guard. But I’m not so sure we don’t just stick to our bread and butter, and what worked well against them last year, which is just run the ball down their throats.

If we can do that early then it should open up the passing game anyhow.

I want to see the play where DJ fakes a handoff, takes 2-3 steps with the ball tucked like he is going to run then stands up or jumps and throws a pass. Last week the pass went to Randall down the sideline but usually it is over the middle. Love that play.

GC buddy told me we should just handoff to Mafah and Shipley and we would be fine.

Run it and run it and run it until there are 11 in the box. Then throw it over the top. DV would register on the seismic meter in Lugoff.
