Monte Lee

Feb 27, 2022, 11:43 PM

Comparing him to Mark Kingston, and Chad Holbrook he's done a good job. Last year obviously wasn't what anyone wanted. We had some injury issues, but finished on a 6-2 run to right the ship so to speak. Started off hot against lesser competition is the way our season should start. Hell of a weekend in Tiger Town this weekend. Looking forward to the USC series.

I’m pulling for the guy just as I did for Brownell in the earlier days. Hate to see anyone fail but he really needs a great year or at least something that resembles we are trekking in the right direction.

Love you DE and I know if anyone knows our baseball team, it's you. It is tough as others have rightly pointed out. Recruiting is tough. Have to find those diamonds that want a college education. That said, other than his first year when he had Jack's talent, what has he done?

Granted, most years we'll get into a regional based on conference strength. This year's no different. We'll be spotted between 14 or 15 wins before our conference season begins. Miami doesn't look to be as strong as traditionally as they've been. Scar will be on par with us but the jury is out to whether or not they're a good team. Point being, we probably won't know how good we are til late March after a couple ACC series. One with the puppies that are a good team.

So, I hope you'd agree, it's a given with a half decent team, we'll be in a region and it's pretty easy with our schedule to get 35+ wins each year. The proof is, we haven't even been competitive in any regional Monte has taken us to. So, you're great at pointing out other's perceived "wrong" facts. What are your facts, what in your opinion should be our baseball expectations? Please tell us what it takes to say Monte is a successful coach?

Btw- I know him and he is a wonderful person. Most Clemson staff are.

we have been in the regionals every year but last year. the team that was 14-3 before covid shut it down was going to be his best team yet. the pitching on that team was awesome. then they all got drafted. last years team was very young and had a lot of injuries. no one was happy. what gets me is how all you experts have this team figured out after 7 games. 7. man, yall must be some great talent evaluators. get back with me after 20 or so games. there will be a lot more to judge by then.

Lol. He literally said…

“Point being, we probably won't know how good we are til late March after a couple ACC series.”

Do you even read what people say or are you just that emotional when people say things you don’t like that you become delusional? Who said anything about THIS years team?

The point everyone is making is that Monte has done nothing to advance this program past where Leggett left it. He wasn’t hired to just make regionals. Jack was already doing that. Are you really that nearsighted that you can’t agree with that? What are your expectations for this once elite program?

2016: 44-20 ACC Tourney Champions, hosted regional
2017: 42-21 hosted regional
2018: 47-16 ACC Atlantic Champions, ACC co champions hosted regional
2019: 35-26 Oxford regional
2020: 14-3 cut short because of Covid. lost a lot of talent to the draft, mostly pitching
2021: 25-27 did not qualify for postseason.

yes we had a bad year last year, but just take a look at the roster, A lot of young players. And I understand you guys want to make the Supers and CWS, and so do I, but you all act like Monte is out here having losing seasons every year. Also, on a sidenote a lot of people on here tend to not give a rats behind about baseball until we hit a rough patch, same with basketball.

Well 2020 started off 14-3 before the season was cancelled and last year was a strange year for everyone.
We all have read the imbalance of scholarships that some schools can manage for baseball and Clemson is not currently setup to do that so we have to take it all in the big picture.
Obviously the biggest issue for Monte is that we havent been deeper than a regional since he has been here but all I can say is my son(11) has been to some of his one day camps and hearing him talk to the boys about the game, about being a man, a gentleman, about commitment and what it takes to succeed... It is hard to imagine there are very many parents of recruits who wouldnt want their son to play for him.

Well... We have Monte for this season, so let's all support him and the Tiger Baseball team. I would love nothing more than for Monte to succeed at Clemson.
Go Tigers!!! Let's beat the Lamecocks this weekend. I have a case of beer riding on it.

You should be safe with your bet. Based off limited sample size, pitching for them is suspect. None of us will know how good UNC-G is but it was a nailbitter series that SCar could have lost. So we should be able to score and our pitching seems to be better (except for Clayton). We need to find a Saturday starter. I'd give Dill a whack.

so clayton gives up 2 runs and lets throw him under the bus. he gave up 6 hits and only 1 ball was hit hard. and it was caught. hoffmaN GAVE UP 2 ALSO. WHY NOT GET RID OF HIM ALSO. NICE HOW YOU PEOPLE CALL OUT KIDS ON THE INTERNET AFTER 2 STARTS.

You accused me of saying above the exact same thing you said. I said we wouldn't know until late March how good we are.

I also prefaced above with a very small sample size. And seriously, I didn't throw the kid under the bus. Again, as I stated, based on a very limited sample size, our Sat starter has been roughed up a bit by 2 very, very weak teams. We'd know better by playing Dutch Fork high school as opposed to Hartford. They barely had enough votes to go division 3 vs elimination of all sports.

Just curious, but why do you keep referencing Dutch Fork as the high school baseball team you want to compare to Hartford?

Dutch Fork wasn't the best team in South Carolina last season, and they are not the best team in South Carolina this season.

I know you have Columbia area connections, but they aren't expected to even be the best team in the Columbia area this season.

I'm not trying to be confrontational because I appreciate your opinions on baseball, but it seems like an odd choice of team to pretend is better than a college team.

My apologies, I could have done better. Purely a reference, and I'd go watch Will Taylor play. That's the only reason. Other than hillcrest, couldn't tell you what team is good.

He was definitely worth the price of admission last season for sure, and he certainly wasn't the only elite high school hitter in that lineup.

Their team last season fell short due to lack of pitching which is where they would massively fall short of even a Hartford in a "3 games in 2 days" setup like we just saw with Clemson vs Hartford.

For reference, I have seen AC Flora ranked as a top 30 team in the COUNTRY this season by one outlet.

They are apparently LOADED this season, even compared to their typical dominant teams.

Keep the good info coming about our Tigers!

How convenient that you’re forgetting about the 1 2/3 innings against Indiana where he got absolutely shelled for 4 runs on 5 hits with 2 homeruns.

He’s thrown 5.2 innings giving up 11 hits and 6 runs against the weakest teams he will face all year. That’s not an opinion. I guess it’s crazy to acknowledge that when you can’t see the forest from the trees.

No need to argue with that guy. He knows everything about everything. We know Clayton has been the weak link on the pitching rotation. Doesn’t mean he won’t get it going. The fact the rest of the pitching staff is doing so well magnifies it. He has good stuff. He gets a lot of hitters to 2 strikes. I seen him have a lot of 1-2 counts, but he can’t find the strikeout pitch. Once he can get a finishing pitch down I think he will excel.

VERY WELL PUT. I AINT ARGUING. JUST GETS VERY OLD HOW QUICK EVERYONE HAS GOT TO FIND A WHIPPING BOY ON A 7-0 TEAM. PRETTY SURE NICK IS NOT PLEASED WITH HIS START. AND LIKE I SAID IF THINGS DO NOT GET BETTER CHANGE WILL HAPPEN.

WELL USING YOUR LOGIC WE SHOULD HAVE BENCHED BRYAR HAWKINS. HE STRUCK OUT 4 TIMES IN A ROW IN GAME ONE. MY POINT IS IT IS GAME 2. IF HE CONTINUES TO GET "SHELLED" HE WILL BE REPLACED. THE GUY GAVE UP 1 HIT DURING THE PRESEASON. COACH LECROY SAID HE WAS VERY CLOSE TO BEING NAMED THE FRIDAY STARTER. HERE IS AN IDEA. I THINK I WILL LET MONTE AND COACH SEE DETERMINE WHEN THE TIME IS TO MAKE A CHANGE INSTEAD OF A BUNCH OF KNOW IT ALL GOOBERS ON THE INTERNET.

Please point me to ONE person who said he should be replaced after 2 starts??

Pointing out someone has gotten off to a bad start and is so far the weak link on the pitching staff is not calling for said player to be replaced. Your emotions get the best of your reading comprehension.

We’ll know a little more after this weekend, however it’s still going to be late March before there is a good sense of what this team is.

This years early non-conference was set up like it was designed by a coach who needs wins to improve his resume. Indiana, Hartford, and Northeastern are the 3 of the 4 weekend opponents before conference play. That’s about as weak as I can remember in relation to past seasons. The schedules are made up in the Fall so I’m assuming Monte requested sure wins, although the NCAA Tourny selection committee will not likely acknowledge those games if we go 14-16 in the conference

I think it was a great idea to schedule a few easy teams early in the season for this year's team.

Nothing is better after a losing season than winning some games.

Scheduling great competition for some hard fought games and an early season .500 record would likely have this team in a totally different mindset than where they are currently after experiencing some early season success.

Let's hope they can keep the good feelings going through this week as well!
