Modified season ticket?

May 7, 2020, 9:24 AM

So, if my kid’s graduation at a local high school can occur in a half-filled football stadium with designated seats spaced apart (2 spectators per graduate), why can’t we do the same with Death Valley? Granted, it isn’t ideal, but it is better than no fans and it follows the same principal currently in place for events of approximately similar length in similar (albeit smaller) venues.

Any season ticket holder who prefers to not participate this season, can forfeit their tickets for the year and have their same seats guaranteed for the following season. This takes a significant portion off the top. Next, the rest of the season ticket holders enter a lottery for the right to purchase tickets allotted to whatever seats are provided based on the distancing needs of a half-filled stadium with empty seats spacing fans apart. If there is more demand to justify it, breaking the season into half-season packages can be considered so all who want can at least make some games. Also, these half-season packages could be pre-selected by season ticket holders when determining what tickets they want.

The bottom line, the people who want to accept the risk of attendance can have games to go to safely and those who don’t, aren’t negatively affected long term. Also, less money is generated through ticket sales, concessions, etc., but less is more than zero.

Those concerned or in high risk group stay home.

But that is just me.

That would be almost impossible to police. No way could you regulate such a plan as that and come close to protecting the fans who choose to come to the game.

The Athletic Department can make wearing masks mandatory in order to enter the stadium but that is about as much as they need to do. JParris is correct - if you know that you are high risk - stay home. At some point we have to stop denying the liberties of the vast majority of people who have no risk of hospitalization/death from COVID-19 by continuing to subscribe to the ridiculous argument that it is worth denying our freedoms, liberty and very way of life if it "saves just one life".

Besides as NY has just learned, a continuation of the draconian measures seems to be having little affect at this point. In fact, it may be hurting as 66% of New York's new hospitalizations are coming from people that are locked down (i.e. staying at home) with another 18% coming from nursing homes.

We can't continue down the current path to some mythic "zero risk/zero death" fantasy because living in the real world demands risk - always has and always will.

they could say "enter at own risk" and there'd still be.....

80+K in the stadium..........myself included (and I have asthma)

those who are willing to "risk it" (myself included) will go

those too afraid of contracting the virus or are too "high risk/elderly/underlying conditions, etc..." will stay home...........plenty of fans willing to take their place.
