I'd like to see Clemson get in on the Bronze Statue fad that

Aug 14, 2015, 9:27 AM

is going around Football programs lately. Maybe at the new facility but id rather have it at the stadium for the fans.

Syracuse is unveiling 3 of their Heisman winners in a few weeks

Florida has their Heisman winners

Alabama has their National Championship Head Coaches.

If Clemson were to do this who would we "enshrine"? Coaches? Players?

I like to see the 3 head coaches who have lead us to undefeated seasons.

Heisman, Howard, Ford, and aplace for the next Championship coach.

with Statues modeled after these pics.

I'm not a big fan of the bronze statue idea.

Aug 14, 2015, 9:34 AM

I just think it's a little bit over the top.

I agree. The rush to join the SEC statue parade would, IMO, cheapen any likeness of a former coach or player. Affix their likeness or jersey number to the Clemson shrine that is Death Valley. That is our Hall of Fame....Clemson doesn't need to be copying the slavish members of another conference who have more money than jeebus to burn.

I'm with you too.

Despite that, I'm not about to attempt to stop the tide ... so see my offering a few spots down on this thread.

Argo, I concur.***

In the original plans for the West End Zone, wasn't there a plan to put statues of Tigers at the entrance - similar to what they have for the Panthers at BoA Stadium?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I think that Heisman picture is of him at Georgia Tech

Aug 14, 2015, 9:45 AM

If we built a statue of Heisman we would need to make sure we used a picture from his tenure at Clemson.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

How about statues of memorable plays?

Aug 14, 2015, 9:46 AM

Jerry Butler "The Catch"
Fridge body-slamming that RB (can't remember which opponent)
Tay Scott stepping on the Gamecock's hand on the way to the end zone

NOT Statues because we don't follow others, but definitely

Aug 14, 2015, 10:27 AM

Coaches ... listed in order that they coached ...

Riggs ..... The 1st gets a nod
Heisman ... Best 4 years (Still?)
Williams .. The Mayor of Roanoke had an undefeated season ... and more
Neely ..... Clemson's 1st bowl coach
Howard .... Simply "The Coach"
Ford ...... 1981 ... and more

Let us please avoid following what other schools have done. Let us NOT do full statues. Let us LEAD with something different. I like something like the "HALF-BUST" similar to the Playboy Music Hall of Fame.

Location ... inside the stadium fence. I like an array along the top of the Green Grass section.

Players? I would eschew this - for now anyway.

Not sure of the big deal about doing something that has been done when its not some sort of thing born out of what is unique to the school. Statues to honor history are something that has been done for millennia. I equate putting up statues in the same category as fielding a football team, building a bigger stadium or wearing a helmet.

Not rolling Downtown Clemson with toilet paper like Auburn, Playing Enter Sandman like VT, or Running through smoke like the Canes. ;)

Full size for me!

Difficult to capture a moment or personality with a simple bust. I like the life-sized editions.

A statue of Coach Howard blowing a kiss would be cool.

Aug 14, 2015, 10:37 AM

Place it at the corner of the hill overlooking the field. That would be nice.

BTW, isn't there already a bronze statue of the Tiger mascot outside the East gate? Or is that concrete?

I think it would be cool to point that statue toward Columbia.

Waste of money as well as a future source of controversy. The PC group 20 years down the road will decide something the coaches did was offensive and it would be removed to keep them quiet.
