Mid-day look at Ian's effect on the game

Right now, attention is, and rightfully so, focused on the track into Florida. Looks like a Cat 4 coming in just below Tampa, turning north across the state.
An interesting trend, and a bit concerning for folks along the coast, has been the general eastward trend of Ian's track over the last 18 hours or so. If anyone's interested in the why's rather than the what's, we can talk at leisure later. For now, just know that every nudge to the east is good news for our game with the Wuffies.
Here's why: the nastiest weather with Ian, as with most storms, will be to the east and northeast -- the "dirty side" of the storm. That's where heaviest rain, wind and possible tornadoes happen. Think about Hugo -- Charleston and points northeast were walloped, while Edisto and Kiawah were buffeted, but not blasted.
Ian will be the same. If what's left of the storm center indeed is near Charlotte at kickoff, the weather in the Valley will be dreary, but not dangerous. On and off showers with a northeast wind of about 20 mph is lousy for tailgating -- but it isn't dangerous, either. The field should be OK, but the lots will be a slopfest after 4 or so inches of rain. I've enclosed the latest NWS outlook for total rainfall by Saturday evening, with most of it falling Friday night through Saturday noon.
It's still going to be a miserable Friday night for prep games, though. I hope everyone has moved those kickoffs.

Current cone doesn't have the eye over Charlotte until 8am Sunday.

Since landfall with Cuba it’s on a strait line to skirt key west and hit Naples. I sure hope they know them some stuff and it turns north again (I’m in KW right now)

Be safe in KW. There are always people who ride out storms there Ave emerge on Duval Street once it passes.
I'm in Key Largo. We've gotten sporadic rain from the outer bands. My biggest concern is the potential storm surge. I'm hoping for a quick-moving storm instead of one that sits and spins.

We'll have a real good idea after landfall late tomorrow on timing and track. Good thing is the latest has some dry air pulling into the southern Wall. We'll see if he regains his symmetry. But the good news is the 12z is pushing him further to the east and maybe, just maybe going across and a second landfall... But possibly picking up more ne steam. Especially as it trudges by Orlando , gainsville.
Just pray for the Florida folks. Could be a devastating storm surge well inland in places most won't evac. So, let's pray and hope it doesn't make a direct over Charlotte Bay? Think that's it. My fam won't budge but wish they would.
