I definitely think he should serve some kind of punishment but 10yrs is a little too much. There are rapists and child molesters who don't serve 10yrs in prison. I know the rock is very valuable to us but He's a kid, we have all made mistakes when we were that age.

I would like the broken piece to be returned for a lesser sentence. 20 years is freaking ridiculous, but it drives home a point. No need to destroy a person's complete life over something as dumb as what that fool did.
I can't even imagine the conversations that he would enjoy in prison. Why are you here? Who did you kill to get 20 years. Uh - I broke a piece of a rock off. .
Anyway - give us our rock back. We love our Rock. Don't ever step foot on our campus again. A short sentence 6-12 months is more than enough IMO. IF we get our Rock piece back. If not - toast the little bastage.  JK

I agree.
My OP is more along the lines of if we don't get the rock back.
And from what I've seen, he is an arrogant little punk that won't give the rock back. If he gets 10 years, it won't bother me.
As for the guy above talking about rape etc, rapists shouldn't get out that soon. That's one of the issues with our justice system. If there is no doubt whatsoever that the suspect is guilty, lock his ### up for life, especially when it comes to a child.

for every one of them. I never paid the full price, I guess I did enough business with the cops to get a discount.
The further away from my teen years the stupider my lawlessness becomes. A felony charge will do more damage to this kid's life than he did to the Rock. I'm not about giving a teenager a dime for a non-violent crime. Six months on the Pickens Country chain gang will suffice.

I'm not saying that it's not legitimate, but ultimately I'm sure the Prosecutor would rather not lock up a kid for 20 years for vandalism. Maybe he's showing him the book he COULD show him if he doesn't cooperate fully and give us back our Rock.
Personally, I'd be fine with:
Give us back our Rock
3 months in prison (even that seems harsh)
Lifetime ban from Clemson campus
x thousand hours of community service
Required to become a Gamecock for life

I don't know about the length of jail time, but make darn sure the twit and his family can't roam our state when he gets out.
The "kid" also got arrested for hunting/trapping out of season on his dad's little rock breaking trip.
