Watch! We will intimately end up in the B1G with

a group of the top echelon ACC teams. Despite geography and old rivalries…makes no business sense (or cultural sense) for Clemson to go to the SEC.

We will end up moving as a block (Clemson, Miami, Ga Tech, UVA, UNC, FSU) to form the Southeastern cluster in this new national league that will counter the other one (SEC).

NC State, Va Tech, and some others will end up in the SEC (or whatever they call it) once it goes Nat’l as well and picks up some of the old PAC 12 programs too.

I could see that happening. Definitely could see it happening.

I’m hoping we’re SEC bound though!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I think these two leagues (formerly SEC and B1G) will

2

May 20, 2023, 10:19 PM

Form the new “Super league” that will not have to adhere to current NCAA BS.

They will most likely grow to be 24, 26, 28 teams each (or even more) as this whole new structure shakes out, and resemble what we’ve grown accustomed to with the Pros. I’m not saying I like it but, this is just the direction it will go…

Already on the “glide path” to receiving this credential along with ND.

Clemson’s athletic philosophy for Football is certainly SEC caliber but, it’s Olympic Sports offerings philosophy is more aligned with the B1G programs

Conference realignment has absolutely zero to do with academics and 100% to do with football/money

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I believe your correct about one thing…

2

May 20, 2023, 11:06 PM

Football $ for sure, but, don’t underestimate the academics variable. Besides, this has to do with other items as well…B1G desperately wants/needs a recruiting presence in the south at a much higher level than currently exists. They will get that with Va, NC, SC, Ga, and Fla with aforementioned programs.

Also, Clemson would have a better shot at more appearances in the “Big Show” upcoming playoff structure in the B1G vs SEC.

And then all the other stuff we mentioned earlier regarding Olympic Sports philosophy’s vs the unapologetic semi pro sports attitude that the SEC doesn’t even try to hide.

With the exception of just a few, the SEC schools really work to do the minimum Mens offerings as well as women’s. I believe it’s 6 Mens, 8 Women’s…

Look at some of these Schools, their sizes and wealth and tell me why they don’t spend $$$ on Olympic sports? Because it’s the smart business thing to do! That’s why!

All Olympic sports are losers…period. The only reason why the ACC and the B1G have them is for cultural reasons…that even strengthens my case.

Some may not realize, but research expenditures at a Michigan dwarf football. It’s more than 10x the whole athletic department. At Clemson it’s only double now. AAU gives you some advantages in getting the real money.

Collegiate Wrestling and my eternal hope that Clemson will someday reinstate the once vaunted Mens Wrestling program. The B1G views Mens Wrestling as a “Foundational Sport” so it would make that dream happen.

But, taking off the “Rose colored” glasses, I still think from a recruiting, academic, future Football success, Olympic Sports, perspective…this is what Clemson wants and will get because they have positioned themselves to do so

B1G is coming South…and going to invite a Block of programs (4, 6…maybe even more but proball LT in that range, at first anyway). Clemson will be in that block. Again, no duplicity…each Conf wants only one of the 2 schools so they can both capture “eye”s on large streamed games. Clemson is only similar to the SEC regarding Football.

It may have used to be culturally like an SEC school (late 60s, 70s, and 80s) but that old classic culture is long gone. Clemson has become a national brand and has always had a desire to carry academic credentials… (just look at all the ranking priority Clemson has placed high on their list over the past 25-30 years.

Re: You don’t truly understand Clemson culture…

I have lived Clemson Culture for 60+ years. My lifetime observation in the classroom and on the football field is that we have gotten better. I have ZERO envy of South Carolina and Arkansas and note that 30 years in the SEC has done NOTHING/NADA/ZIP for those schools. I have no desire to join up with Ole Miss,MissState,LSU,ARK,SC,Bama,TENN,or KY. I don't want to be like them nor share the national perception other have of them.

I have no real desire to change leagues at all, other than money. The SEC Commissioner runs that league like a CEO. Take away a home game if fans 'rush' the field? Travel to Big10 games would be awful, but at least it would be different. A problem with the SEC is they all want to be the same. NOTE that at the end of the year, they all hug and claim the Ga,Bama,LSU,Florida Trophy as if the own it. What sort of craziness is that?

Is it Clemson Culture to hug up on FSU? To root for UNC or Duke in the Final Four? Or to be disciplined, smart, hard working, military friendly, and family oriented? Have you ever been to a Georgia game? Doesn't LSU try hard to have the drunkest crowd very Saturday night?

I think too many Clemson people fell for all that "SEC Speed" talk out of the 90s and the cycling out talk of the gamecocks in the Muschamp years.

I say NO THANKS......and hope to make Clemson's fortune by being Clemson, not some SEC wannabe.

Do you feel Clemson is culturally more like Michigan, Penn State…

3

May 21, 2023, 4:56 PM

and Ohio State than UGA, Alabama, and LSU?

I personally would rather the ACC stay viable as well, but to say we have more in common culture wise with B1G schools than SEC schools is simply false. Here is the definition…

a
: the customary beliefs, social forms, and material traits of a racial, religious, or social group
also : the characteristic features of everyday existence (such as diversions or a way of life) shared by people in a place or time
popular culture
Southern culture
b
: the set of shared attitudes, values, goals, and practices that characterizes an institution or organization
a corporate culture focused on the bottom line
c
: the set of values, conventions, or social practices associated with a particular field, activity, or societal characteristic

The whole purpose of ELEVATE is to get Clemson AAU accredited and appealing to the B10. I believe Clements, BOT, Neff are open to going to B10 or SEC, whichever will be best for Clemson.

If the B1G were to play their cards right, they could take control of the southeast/atlantic region. The tough one would be taking the state of GA, but the first step would be to get GT on board and get them to start playing several big games per year in Mercedes-Benz Stadium, with no ticket allotment restrictions. GT has a long history of elite sports, but it's been awhile since they were relavent. The B1G could help them return to glory and sway fan support in Atlanta in their direction, but it won't be easy.

No cultural sense? You lost me a bit there, but I guess you are referring to the "win-at-all-costs" and relative poor academic reputation of the SEC. (?)

The BIG isn't culturally a fit at all, outside of academics. But, you might be right. The BIG no doubt would love to expand their conference footprint into the Southeast and Clemson is a perfect match. Personally, I'm begining to think this is where Clemson will ultimately end up too (because the female sports we've added, and academic hoops we've jumped through to align with BIG institutions). I prefer the SEC because it would be an easier visit for away games, otherwise it doesn't matter. I'm not a fan of the SEC bottom-feeding idiots chanting "SEC", "SEC"; but also not a big fan of loud/obnoxious Yankees. Show me the money. It's probably not a done deal yet, and Clemson may be hedging their bets, but there's smoke.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Move to the B1G 10 probably makes most sense, unfortunately.

2

May 21, 2023, 4:52 PM

With all their PAC-12 pickups, it truly looks like the B1G 10 wants to be a nationwide conference. And the SEC will go after UNC and UVA before other ACC Schools. The B1G 10 can have games going from 11 AM to 2 AM the next day with that much inventory. If it’s all about dem television $$$, the B1G 10 can offer more games and more time slots than any other conference.
