On the road, first game of the season, true freshmen... Absurd.

Right on. Slow the video down and watch the ball go over the defense for a Clemson td - a beautiful thing to watch... and here we are in 2015...

Drove me and everyone else insane at the time but what if it was all part of the plan? We wanted to save our #### whoopings for this season and next. That's what I'm going to tell myself atleast. But I'm with you there, you could tell just from one throw that we had the best qb in the country and IMO the best quarterback to ever wear the paw.

He hasn't played an entire season yet.

I'm all for crowing anybody with any title they deserve but we probably shouldn't start the coronation ceremony while we're still on the battlefield.

Did it take an entire season for you to say Sammie was a special talent?

Oct 29, 2015, 9:22 AM

Or did he take that first play 7 yard pass, run it 75 yards to the house, and you knew he was going to do big things with the tigers?

Are you still wondering how Wilkins or Hyatt are going to turn out?

You can guard your excitement or you can just have fun and enjoy these special talebts at Clemson right now.

There is a difference.

Oct 29, 2015, 12:42 PM

Let me preface this by saying that DW will be the most outstanding quarterback we've ever produced, imo.

The difference is that Sammy just had to learn one position. DW has to learn all every position on the offense and every play in the offensive playbook. Sammy started with one position and worked his way up to the others. That can't happen with a QB for him to show off all his skill.

IMO, DW was brought along with just the right amount of reserve. That's partly to protect his ego and partly to protect him from ravenous fans who would crucify a freshman for typical freshman mistakes.

Who's guarding excitement? I'm stoked and ready to strap on a helmet and rip somebody's face off.

12 is irrelevant. If he bombs next year it still doesn't change that he has been the most talented qb we've had. I wouldn't worry about him bombing anything than opposing defenses.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

He should have been the starting QB from then on.

DW$ would have won that Georgia game.

I have to disagree here. Unless DW4 was going to play linebacker and stop the toss sweep Georgia still would've beaten us.

His first year he seemed to play with a lot less restraint and would make plays like that. This year he's doing very well, but doing it quietly. Definitely not as flashy as he was his freshman year. However, if this is his version of the "sophomore slump" then I'll take it. :D

Go Tigers!

He hasn't been that impressive this year. That's just a fact. Is he playing well? Sure. But I don't believe he's anything close to a Heisman candidate. He looked much, much better last year IMO.

He had Mike Williams deep. And we had no running game really so out air game looked so much better.

#4 QBR in the country and in the discussion for Heisman. What would it take for you to say he's been impressive?

I think trying to be a "Heisman Candidate" is a distraction

Oct 29, 2015, 9:38 AM [ in reply to Re: Maybe y'all already knew, but this is when my jaw hit the ]

It requires trying for accomplishments that don't necessarily coincide with overall team success.

This season, Watson's stats are modest by "Heisman" standards, mainly because the offense is more balanced than last year and he's doing the things it takes for the team to win each week.

Getting back into the serious Heisman discussion would mean leaving him in the game when the score is out of hand just to blow up his stats and throwing the ball in situations where a controlled running game is the more prudent option.

I'd love for DW to win the Heisman, but only if his accomplishments parallel the success of the team as a whole.

If we go undefeated, win the playoff, then Watson will be in contention for the Heisman just be doing what he's been doing.

I'll never forget that pass. My jaw dropped too and I remember saying "wow, that was an nfl pass." The first word wasn't wow, but I don't want to offend anybody. ;) Pretty impressive for a true freshman playing one of his first snaps as a college football player.

that game - a 20-yard rope to Mike Williams in the middle of the field for a first down. It was right on target, with zip, and he looked effortless making it happen.

That TD was over the top though. Amazing to think that so soon after a record-setting record-setter at QB we'd be blessed with someone even more talented.
