I heard more than one announcer say that USC looked

bigger and more physically impressive than just about any team in the nation other than maybe Bama. That's saying something. Maybe compared to most of college football, we have an adequate S&C program, but not compared to USC. The asnwer to this problem? I don't know, but I did think it was intersting when I heard those comments earlier this year.

But for the 1st quarter the Tigers physically took it to the Coots.
During the next three qusrters: * Morris abandoned the run allowing SC's DL to start teeing off. Run blocking is much more aggressive - when we did it, we were fine.
* SC's o-line starting holding evidenced by several penalties and a few no calls. On third and long, Clemson's DB's were just simply awful - little instictive play towards the ball or open WR's. When we did happen to get there, the DB's dropped INT's and one bad pass intefernce call.
In summary our DB's choked, Morris got impatient and then the whole team butts's puckered up.

he disrupted the whole offense. As for them being bigger and badder, why didn't they run it down our throats. Our DL held it's own. Our OL got owned by the 2014 number one overall pick

we have on defense now. FSU didn't want Tony Steward or Travis Blanks. Nobody wanted Stephone Anthony. Maybe, BV is no better than KS. BV's defense's weren't good his last two seasons at OU. But, your response was just to argue for the sake of arguing. It had nothing to do with the state of our defense.

would reflect badly on Dabo. The gameplan was perfect, the playcalling was perfect, there was no strategic problem with our offense, at all. The official story from the Tnet experts is that:
- Our OL is bad - Our S&C coach has to be fired - The defense lost this game (they lose every game, because they're not coached by Dabo)

I keep hearing people mention this. in the first drive in the second half, Ellington ran it for 1 yard on first down. Boyd was sacked on 2nd and 9, and rushed for 10 on 3rd down. So, other than 3rd and long, we have 50/50 split.
Second drive of the 2nd half: Boyd pass complete to Jaron Brown Ellington rush for 12 Ellington rush for 1 2nd & 9: Boyd pass incomplete to Nuk 3rd and 9: pass complete to Sammy for 5 FG So, other than 3rd and long, we had 2 passes 2 runs.
3rd drive of the 2nd half: Boyd scramble for 6 (busted pass play) Ellington rush for 9 Boyd pass incomplete Boyd rush for 3 (option rush) on 3rd and 7, Boyd interception So, other than 3rd and long, there were 2 called passes, 2 called rushes.
4th drive of the 2nd half (now down 27-17) Boyd sacked Boyd rush 3 yards (busted pass play) Boyd pass incomplete Punt So, now that the deficit is 10 with less than 5 minutes to play, the playcalling gets much more one-dimensional.

SC looked bigger and stronger than Clemson. That doesn't always equate to them being more physical. Sometimes the uniform can make a difference in looks but Saturday, SC definitely looked the part. Kids are bigger today than they were in the 80's but SC looked close to what our players looked like during that time frame. I do not know how much apart the S&C programs are, but SC definitely has the thug mentality.

you were stating that their line is bigger than ours. Both Taylor and Clowney aren't bigger than our Offensive Tackles. They're not even bigger than our DE's. Are they better yes, but bigger no. We could have blocked Clowney in the run game (as Clowney isn't a good run defender), but we quit running the ball with our running backs mostly after the 1st qtr. Twice in the 2nd half we run right at Clowney with Ellington, and both times Ellington blew right past him even though Clowney had the angle to make the tackle. Clowney is an amazing pass rusher, but he isn't a complete player as he is a weak run defender. He will have to improve on that next year, or he would be a situational DE in a 4-3 defense or he would have to be an Outside Linebacker in a 3-4 defense in the NFL.

Cowherd only watches PAC 12 football…..
Nov 28, 2012, 4:56 PM
|

because he is from the west coast. If you listen to his show, the only teams he goes into any detail about are Pac 12 teams. When he talks about SEC teams he provides no specifics, he just repeats the ESPN company line about the SEC. He does the same thing with the NBA. He provides no specifics about any teams in the NBA, he just only repeats the ESPN company line about the NBA. Only thing to listen to Cowherd is for, is his NFL coverage, that's something he actually watches and knows about. Everything else about him is towing the ESPN company line and being moronic by insulting certain fan bases to get higher ratings.

teams outside of the PAC 12. And if SCU passes the "eye" test, why aren't they in the SEC title game? Again, like I said before consider the source. The only thing Cowherd knows about is the NFL. Anything outside of the NFL, from his commentary it is more than obvious that the only thing he watches outside of the NFL is the PAC 12.

he didn't make an impact against us. CM, I know you like to argue with me, but you're claiming I stated stuff that I didn't state. Where did I state we had a better OL than UT? Where did I state that Clowney didn't have an impact against us?
My point in this thread that SCU is so much bigger than us, just isn't true. That's what the OP was about.
CM really, you like to argue for the sake of arguing. This thread was about the size of SCU and Clemson. The OP stated nothing about how good Clowney and Taylor are. It stated nothing comparing our Oline to UT's Oline.

The Tiger King is an idiot. The guy stated they "looked the part", etc. Give me a smart driven 295lb lineman anyday over a 330 irresponsible, lazy one.
Your arguements mean nothing and size isn't the issue. it is the Strength and Conditioning program. Clemson DEs are bigger but are they faster, stronger, I don't know. I know Clowney is 260 and 6-5 but runs faster than some running backs.
The idea of the original post was the announcers and football fans watching the game would say there was a difference in toughness, strength, conditioning, desire etc and that needs to change. It doesn't have a chance to grwo when you are whipping Duke, BC, Wake week in week out. There is no chance for struggle or determination to get better because there is no challenge throughout the year. Then USC and bowl season come up and losses mount.
