Mask Mandate update

DHEC has sent out a waiver form. However, what I'm hearing is there's nothing to waive since there is no mask mandate anymore.
So we can encourage them to wear a mask, but kids no longer have to.
It's crazy that we have to deal with this headache that couldn't wait 3 weeks.

Either the kid wears a mask or doesn't.
You complain about teaching online. You complain about teaching in person. You complain about parents. You complain about kids.
Remind me why you are a teacher.....??

The waiver was for liability purposes only

One of the protections (emergency) passed by the state legislature was freedom from lawsuits, as long as one can show they took appropriate precautions, per health guidance. Well, in this case the governor issued an executive order AGAINST public health guidance in removing the mandate as he did. As such, I think the school districts are free and clear now. The lawsuit ball is now in the governor's court and they will just pass any straight into his lap.
Odds are low anything bad happens in 2 weeks. But if something does, it will be an interesting lawsuit. Even in Florida, where DeSantis did the same power grab over localities, he still left the choices about school masks to the districts. And the superintendent is correct, he way overstepped his authority in that executive order. He might as well issue executive school curriculum orders now, since he's on a roll.

No. The parents of students have the freedom

Teachers, like yourself, are still employees of the district and you have to do whatever they tell you. See state agencies, governments, courts, whatever, are stil free and clear to require masks, as they see fit. It's just not the children (students).
So YOU have no freedom to choose, as you're an employee. Only the students (parents) can choose.
See how that works?
So ask your principal, or district head. If you're in high school, it won't make much difference honestly if students don't wear masks. It only works when everyone does it at that age/lung size.
Just VERY poorly done IMO.

Because they are employees of the school district

Parents can choose about masks. But local governments, school districts, courts, legislative branch, they can all make their own rules for their own employees in their own buildings. Just not the schools with regard to the kids.
Schools can force all adults in the school to wear masks. All employees. But the kids, exempt. Some districts are like "fuggit" since all the kids will run around without masks. Plus they will sure place the liability, if any arises, at the gubnah's feet.
You don't have to make sense of it, just know it. It's "the law".

It’s an absolute disgrace how left leaning teachers in South Carolina (most of whom are from out of state) have acted during this pandemic.
While the rest of us were worried about losing our jobs you were bitching about having to go back to school...
You cried when you weren’t put in front of senior citizens on the vaccine list even though they were the ones actually dying from this disease...
And now you’re mad simply because your students don’t have to wear masks anymore.
And fwiw my wife is a teacher so I know what I’m talking about.
