Many say that CTB laid the foundation for today's program,

Oct 30, 2015, 12:38 PM

and I agree, but IMO the best thing he ever did for Clemson was to recommend Dabo on his way out.

Agree wholeheartedly!

Go Tigers!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

That was a good move for sure

Oct 30, 2015, 12:46 PM

But I also think Dabo would've had a much harder time being successful (if it would have even been possible) if Bowden hadn't navigated the program from the West years to some semblance of (albeit inconsistent) success. Not to mention helping push the drive for facility upgrades which have only enhanced Dabo's already wonderful recruiting abilities.

Great Post! I am glad that people realize the contributions TB

Oct 30, 2015, 3:42 PM

made to Clemson. Who knows if TB had not recognized Dabo's talents as a coach where Dabo would be right now and where Clemsons program would be right now!!

Tommy was never able to fix the OC position.

Oct 30, 2015, 12:58 PM

Had he done that correctly he would still be at Clemson.

Re: Tommy was never able to fix the OC position.

Oct 30, 2015, 1:00 PM

That's certainly true but he was also very inconsistent. We could defeat the big dogs like fsu and then lose to duke. You could never bank on "yeah we'll win this game for sure." It was always a roller coaster.

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

He was never able to fix the DC position either. We would

Oct 30, 2015, 1:05 PM

get teams into 3rd and 21, and give up a 26 yard play. Over and over. That is the biggest difference with Coach BV. Get em in a hole, and then finish them off on 3rd down.

Reggie Herring was the worst at that. He seemed to blitz almost every down.

You may get the pass off, and it may go for a touchdown, but we WILL have 11 players in your backfield.

Re: Many say that CTB laid the foundation for today's program,

TB took us up a few notches, but he took us as far as he was willing'able to take us. It was time for a new way, and we got that with Dabo. Dabo was willing to make the hard choices to get the staff in place to carry us to the highest level, and his morals, character and dedication make it very hard for a recruit not to at least give us a look, and it is almost impossible for a real parent not to want what we offer their kid. Dabo is very much more special than TB ever though of becoming.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Really, the only thing to still be annoyed with Bowden about

Oct 30, 2015, 1:14 PM

was that last contract extension. Arkansas's bluff should have been called. Luckily that didn't really handcuff us at all.

badge-donor-05yr.jpgringofhonor-aero.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I don't know about that.

Oct 30, 2015, 1:14 PM [ in reply to Re: Many say that CTB laid the foundation for today's program, ]

If you line up Dabo and CTB against any other coach in the ACC or SEC, those 2 are the closest match of morals, character, and dedication.

They are not even close as Coaching abilities nor choosing assistants, though. We are light years better now than we were with TB.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

man, 100% agree

Oct 30, 2015, 1:51 PM [ in reply to Re: Many say that CTB laid the foundation for today's program, ]

TB isn't in Dabo's league as a leader of young men.......not even close. Just because you are moral and of good character does not mean you are a leader.....same goes for being a Christian. TBs teams had some character issues at times, were soft a lot of times, and listless emotionally a lot of the time. He could not hold Dabo's whistle as a true leader of young men, period.

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

But it was a far sight better than what we had under West***

Agreed, or Hatfield either, once the remaining kids

Oct 30, 2015, 2:14 PM

from Danny's last team left. Chester left early because he could not stand the Hatfield staff, etc.. Bowden, like Richt, is a good moral man.....got it. I just get irritated with people who think that moral Christian men are automatically good leaders. That is a joke. Actually, some of them can be selfish and dry and listless. You take a guy like Dabo who has grinded for everything, is young and has tons of fire, add the morals and character and you have a true leader. Richt and Bowden's teams consistently underachieved, had character issues at times, and were flat a LOT in their passion. That is garbage to me no matter how good of a man you are. TBs dad led an outlaw program at FSU and is a good man too from all accounts.

CTB laid the foundation for the admin improvements

Oct 30, 2015, 1:16 PM

and getting into the facilities arms race.

But unlike Tommy's program, this program is built on toughness and physicality. It would drive me crazy when a player under Tommy would lay their "injured" and then get right back up when the trainers got out there. We'd lay on the field and slow the game down for a hangnail. That shows softness to the other team. That stopped the first game Dabo was the coach.

OUR TIGERS success today...

...CTB was looking ahead when he picked Dabo to be his successor as well, because he knew CDS had the same vision for establishing an ELITE FB PROGRAM that would continue to grow and flourish after his departure when that time comes.
