I don't actually know much about the guy, but I gather that was how he came up in the world. It certainly wouldn't have to be permanent, but Clemson might become a Bama, picking up discarded head coaches here and there and using them for a few years of rehab.

was he just really bad as a DC? I only got curious because it seemed like he progressed through several teams as DC before head coach, and figured somebody must think he was pretty good at it in order to bring him to Miami for the head coaching gig.

Clemson is one of the worst places to coach if you like partying. Maybe Diaz should go where coach pet monkey is.

and that is being kind. He was so uncreative it was almost disturbing.
To clarify: I say this as someone who despises UT. I enjoyed Manny being there because he was so bad and his failures brought the heat on Mack, who finally had to cut him loose.

absolutely no root in any facts whatsoever:
Ever been around someone, or seen them on TV, and just get the feeling that you need to go take a shower to cleanse yourself after just being around them? Dave Doeren is one of those. Manny Diaz gives me that same vibe. (He even has the sleazy greasy hair to go with it.) Butt, that's all it is, a vibe. Felt the same way bout Ken Hatfield, like something was just a little off.
And, Tates Locke and Charley Pell were in a Master Class for it.
