I feel bad saying it, but after being coached by Venebles, how do players get fired up by that stump?

You can earn respect without charisma. Being a man of your word, demonstrating the ability to scheme in a way that puts players in position to be successful, creating an environment of mutual respect, developing players in a way that gets them prepared for the next level, etc etc etc. A lot more to being a coach, and being respected, than being able to wax eloquently in front of a camera.

I tend to agree with you but one thing I have not seen a lot of this year is our players singing his praises. I live out West so maybe I just don't get to read the things being printed locally and they have been out there but I find that somewhat curious.

Recruiting class and players talking about coming back . . .

What do you make of the defensive recruiting class that was signed in addition to the players potentially returning? If Goodwin was poorly thought of by the players, wouldn't you expect a weak recruiting class or players jumping ship quickly?

I didn't say he was poorly thought of. I said I don't hear a lot from his players in terms of praise and I wasn't sure if that meant anything or not. They used to rave about BV and I don't expect that but generally, you do read from time to time where players are complementing the staff they play for.

And yes, the points you make are also evidence of a good locker room and good feelings toward the staff.

There have been players comment on Wes throughout the year, the thing that sticks out the most is there have been several comments about how funny he is and that he jokes a lot off camera.

The team gave a standing ovation when Dabo named Wes as the new DC so they seem to like and respect him. It's not as if he were a stranger to them before this year.

All true, as I said, I just haven't seen much in print and maybe it just hasn't made its way to the left outpost here in the West or maybe it really doesn't matter. That is why I said I found it curious. I wasn't making a judgment one way or the other, just an observation.

Coach V was also known to cuss like a sailor too. That was never a good example, IMO. You don’t need to cuss out your players to get their attention…

They're just words. There are tools to communicate with other human beings. Sometimes a well-placed W T F goes a long way toward getting a kid's undivided attention.
I don't know where this idea of "bad" words came from but it is juvenile and silly.

Bellicheck isn’t charismatic, neither is saban, or Huepel, etc. there is the rule and then there are exceptions.
My response was to CS73 asking how do players get fired up for Wes. I was simply trying to point out “how” that could happen. Doesn’t just have to be from charisma.
I get your point that a lot of coaches do have that ability. But there is more than one way to connect with folks. The staff has a lot of dudes with plenty of charisma, so that might relax the need from Wes to some degree.

As Danny would have said, if they can coach it very, very, probably doesn't matter how they talk.

Ourselvex with certain quotable phrases like “nut cutting” etc. which is fine as long as you back it up on the field. I think the difference between a good coach and a great coach is having the ability to motivate your players and know the X’s and O’s. I don’t really care about how they go about motivating their players. If they employ a “silent assassin” persona I think it’s even better because you never know what that guy’s thinking.
