Man, I am a life long fan and FED-UP with the ACC

May 28, 2016, 9:23 PM

I mean, I would be ready to just switch conferences if I had a say.

This stupid pool play and no rescheduling of a championship baseball game just reminds me of what a pathetic conference we are in. They put this game in Durham because the NAACP said boo within 24 hours. And every ACC basketball tourney practically is played in NC.

Meanwhile there are 1,245 channels of the SEC network on cable and we've done nothing.

We should have left the ACC back in the 80s when they imposed additional sanctions on our football team because tabacoo road was jealous.

Maryland was our only ally back then and I see why they left, they have balls.

This championship game is already bad enough for our pitching

May 28, 2016, 9:28 PM

heading into regionals. Now we want to play it later in the week?

Re: This championship game is already bad enough for our pitching

May 28, 2016, 9:59 PM

I'll give you your thoughts about not playing the championship giving us a better shot at a national seed. But the pitchers that would start for us in the regional late next week would be the same ones who started Thursday and Friday this week. Meaning it wouldn't matter if the championship game were Sunday or Monday, it wouldn't really affect the rest our guys got.

I am fed up with Swofford. It has not always been this way.

it has been this way since 1982!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! swoffie MUST GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

badge-donor-15yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Seriously these idiots who run the ACC have no idea

May 28, 2016, 9:49 PM

What they are doing. They are lucky to still have Clemson and FSU.

2024 purple level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Maryland left, but UVA, GT, and Clemson get no favors from the ACC.

May 28, 2016, 9:54 PM

Back in the day with 8 team ACC, if you weren't from NC you were getting the shaft. Things haven't changed. I don't see the same deep-rooted bias against the newer teams though.

But this is a great post. I agree. We just need an unbiased commissioner

Re: I have always been a "stick within the acc" kind of guy

Our football team just played for the national title.
Our golf team is playing for the national title.
Our baseball team is immensely better than last year, has won 41 games, is a consensus top ten team and will play for the Conference Title we have not won in forever.
Our basketball team has its best player coming back, will be stronger with new, better players and will be playing in a new on campus arena next year.

The ACC placed a team in each of the first two National Playoffs and won the National Title 3 years ago.
The ACC won the National Titles in basketball and baseball last year.

Clemson had more players taken in the first two rounds of the most recent NFL Draft than the entire SEC East.
Watson was third in the last Heisman Trophy balloting and will be one of the favorites to win it next year.

Only three teams in all of college football have won more games in the last four years than Clemson.
Anyone in America with computer could have watched the last three Clemson wins in the ACC Baseball Tournament.

AND YOU WANT TO BYTCH AND MOAN ABOUT CLEMSON'S CONFERENCE AFFILIATION AND SOME CONFERENCE ADMINISTRATOR?

Give me a freaking break. You're either a moronic malcontent Clemson fan or a Gamecock. I hope you're a Gamecock.

OH, and screw the SEC.

Go Tigers!!

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-15yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Clearly you don't think highly of our men's soccer team.

May 29, 2016, 1:26 AM

Lost in NCAA Champ game to Stanford.

But to the rest of your point, just bc our teams and players are performing well doesn't mean there aren't some questionable moves by the ACC, ie, Swofford.

Unlike most, I am willing to give him credit for securing our conference, and am still reserving judgement about media rights and money. But I do believe its time to move on from Swofford. Nothing wrong with being discontent with conf leadership.

Our success in football is in SPITE of the ACC. Anyone who knows the history of us in this crappy league would agree.

You can go ahead and thumbs down this post too, I really don't give a ####.

Harley, your post is spot on! I agree 100%!

May 29, 2016, 10:11 AM [ in reply to Re: I have always been a "stick within the acc" kind of guy ]

I would MUCH rather Clemson be in the ACC. It is a great all-around conference that has excellent sports and excellent academics. While not perfect, I have no interest in being in a conference like the SEC with its win at all costs mentality.

If the SEC had some better teams, then CLEMSON and FSU would fit in nicely in that conference. We'd just be BIG fish in a little pond.

:)

Just messing with the SEC homers.

Actually, I bet the SEC wishes they had grabbed CLEMSON and FSU instead of Mizzou and ATM. Those two teams fit into the SEC like a pair of brown shoes with a black tuxedo.

May 29, 2016, 6:54 AM

Sorry guys, just can't take it anymore.

All of these posts about the conference make our fan base look like whiny little girls. And it shows the complete lack of understanding the game of baseball.

The coaches voted several years ago to change the tournament format to the pool play, it was not "that dayum Swoffie!!!". And guess what...it is actually a better format for teams bc it allows you to setup your pitching and/or not overuse pitching trying to climb out of a losers bracket. It's a better setup to prepare for regionals the next week. It just is...get over it. The fans may not like it, it may not be as exciting. But it is better for the teams and players, so move on and stop whining every year. It's not changing, nor should it.

It's essentially the same reason they are making the right call not playing on Monday. I would much rather our pitchers, mainly relievers, have an extra day of rest. And Coach Lee would too. I would love an ACC championship as much as anyone, but not at the expense of a regional. Would it be a huge disadvantage to play Monday? No, not huge. But it would be less than optimal for every team playing next week, therefore you don't do it.

The conference essentially made the decision in both cases to do what would be unpopular with the fans but popular with the coaches/teams. Therefore, they did the right thing.

All that being said, I really hope we get to play today. I live winning conference titles, and I especially love beating FSU to do it.

Go Tigers!!!!

Jack voted for pool play then changed his mind

May 29, 2016, 8:23 AM

if I recall correctly. Thanks Jack. It's not a good set-up with meaningless games every year just about. That and it takes an engineering degree to figure out who goes to the ACCCG. And not to have a rain-out plan? You can't be serious that this good planning...

Furthermore, it's not just that. They moved it from Myrtle Beach to Durham within 24 hours of the NAACP saying boo I believe.

And if you read my post it's not just the baseball tourney either. I have hated the ACC ever since AD Swoffie put extra sanctions on our football team in the 80s. Fast forward now and UNC gets NOTHING for a much bigger scandal with their football team.

All tourneys just about are in NC, we have no real network, the money so far has been horribly negotiated, the refs are sucky, and could go on...but the ACC is awesome right? Man have you been around 30 years like I have?

80s."

Totally false. Swofford had nothing to do with that. See David Hood's article from a few year's ago where he interviewed several ADs in the ACC from the early 80s and proved this myth wrong.

I don't recall everything about the switch

But I remember after the decision to go to pool play, I read that Martin's answer to 'why' was 'success in the regional'.

May 29, 2016, 9:25 AM

Let's face it, our football game every year IS the ACCCG!

May 29, 2016, 9:30 AM

The stupidest idea ever discussed here was Clemson moving to the Big 12 just a few years ago. I was on the dumb end of that. The only remaining plus to moving to the Big 12 is that we wouldn't be unequally yoked with so many basketball schools. That means that we wouldn't be one of the few teams generating the greater income for the conference.

Yet, moving to the Big 12 would have been a horrible mistake. The magnitude of Texas' diva-like persona is surpassed only by ND.

The SEC is the only geographical fit for Clemson other than the ACC. The SEC had, has and will have rampant scandals surrounding most of it's members. It's become standard and acceptable for SEC fans, coaches and administrators. The NCAA doesn't seem to mind much about any cheating now. I want no part of that conference. The academics standard are much higher in the ACC. We just wouldn't fit in with SEC schools.

We do not qualify for admittance to the B1G. Sorry, their rule not mine.

West Coast, really?

Dropping down to a D2 conference and having more leeches to suck at our football revenues?

We're in the best conference available. Being peerless certainly has it's disadvantages.
