Mack, Tank, Kearse, & Green fastest secondary in CU history?

Feb 15, 2015, 5:56 PM

Of course this is assuming Green can grab Smith's old spot which isn't a guarantee. I don't ever remember us having a fast guy starting at every CB and Safety position at one time. Baker will probably be the next guy in if Tank has troubles and he's one of the fastest guys on the team. Recently, we've always had at least one Safety that couldn't run that well (although many were good players): McDaniel, Hamlin, Smith, Hall, Blanks. We've also had a lot of corners recently like that too: Brewer, Robinson, Peters, just to name a few.

I'm not saying fastest equals best, but we'd certainly have a lot of guys on the field at one time that will be able to masks some mistakes with their speed.

As long as we can man up without Peters, we'll be good.***

I like Green but he needs to get a little better in coverage. He got a lot of experience last year so hopefully that will play dividends this season. I would like to see Blanks (if completely healthy) get an opportunity at Smith's spot. either way we have a lot of depth in the secondary something we didn't have a few years ago.

I still get a chuckle thinking back to the Louisville

message board after our game. They were wondering how a "linebacker"-Kearse-ran down their fastest player to seal the victory for us.

So you think Tank holds off Mark Fields?***

Tank would've started last yr had GP not finally stepped up

All of a sudden Peters had a sense of urgency with it being his Senior year, got his act together and balled out last year. Fields looks to potentially be very good, but I doubt he comes in here during the summer and passes both Tank and Baker (he might have had a chance if he was a mid-year guy). Edmond is no slouch either, but is severely undersized @ 170 lbs(has had trouble adding weight like Hopper). I've been impressed with Baker's body development. He came here in the mid 160's, but got up to 184 at fall camp without losing his speed. He's a pretty tall corner so he'd do well in that 195 to 200 lbs range.
