'M U T H E R S'

Jun 19, 2022, 7:42 PM

In the early 70's I ran a hippie bar in Charlotte. It was the last true place for the last hippies as times were changing. Long hair was in for all thanks to the Beatles who were not hippies. Heavy Metal bands (all with long hair) were ruining music (then came Disco).

The bar was not about making money, just a group effort to stay open. The music there by locals was the best. One night Kristofferson came by after a concert and sang with us till the Sun rose. The favorite band was 'Chicken Fried Watermelon'. The deal was open mike during the week. The amount of talent in Charlotte with no place to get on stage was awesome.

I bring this up as some here I will not name (like TB) claim to be experts on hippies even though all they know is what they read and that is not accurate.

Cops bugged my phone and the pay phone across the street. You can look it up as years later there was a Federal court case where guys took the 5th.

Beatniks were among the first the media put up as click bait. Soon there were TV shows.
Hippies were next. While more claimed to be that, nope.

Take WoodStock. I have met countless folks who lied and claimed to be there as "being there" is seen as a badge of ?? and folks will lie to impress.
In my opinion the music there and the bands were very, very good. The bands were not hippie, all of them were rich and driving Jaguars. I am OK with that. The music was great.
Let me go on record --> I was not there as I was overseas and proudly in the US Army.

It is true that folks dress as to peers be it Wall Street or Walmart.
Dress (including hair) does not mean cra p. The "real" will laugh at that.

I also see you did not give me a TU for this great thread.

I had to look up why -- good fun.
---Danzig--

I suspect they are a good band. Today am playing Fathead Newman on the porch, just have never heard Danzig.

Heavy Metal bands were originally a 70s thing.
Music was changing from the VN era to something new.
All Metal bands had long hair like the Beatles and the Mamas & the Papas.
Soon one could not tell a hippie in costume from anyone on the street.

Some of my fav tunes are Metal.

I recently picked up a copy of Fathead on lp. A nice mono copy of the original 1959 pressing. I’m not particularly a Danzig fan but always think of him if anyone says “mother” dramatically.

Once after a night class my car was blocked in.
Last class so stood at the gate as folks left. A beautiful girl in my class stopped and asked if I wanted to go for a beer while the lot cleared.
Just up the road she stopped at a scary dive. I was sure I might not exit alive, but she was beautiful so I followed her in.
All there welcomed me.

I retired my Hippie badge probably when I was about 28, and honestly, those were some of the best of the best years. Employer drug test wasn't a big thing yet, and I could get a buzz after work, and still have a job the next day, week, month or year.

The old red neck politicians are the ones that brought about drug testing bc their dumb, stupid A$$ES had people that didn't know any better, believing that people that smoked week, they were high for 30 days bc, that is how they believed it took for the weed to be out of a persons system. For chronic smokers it may have taken 30 days to have a negative test, but if a person only smoked a half, or a full joint a day, you can have a negative test in about 3 weeks, or 21 days. But now that I have to go to pain management every month, I haven't been able to get a buzz in over 10 years.

I do hope that before my time is up above ground, that they will at least pass a medical marijuana bill, and just maybe I would be able to get away from some of the pain medications that I swallow every single month!!!!

Good post --

I have an aversion to smoking anything - to me it is like fingernails on a chalk board.
I see myself as a sorta tuff guy, but pass out at the sight of a needle meant for me, so that meant heroin was out for me.
That left pills and alcohol. I do love excellent beer, but even today will only will take an asprin in dire times.

All my life have been a proud RedNeck. We are the backbone of the USA (and the World).

MUTHERS was what it was and I changed that because I could, even though I did not own the joint.
I did not allow any drug transactions. If anything sold there would be by me as I had to come up with the rent. Why would I allow others to make $.

Cops staking me out were wasting time.

Do not despair. Go to Eureka, Ca and you can “get your Hippie on” to your heart’s content…..know one will even notice.
