pay your dues and wait your turn, it will all payoff in the long run. I don't care what job you do or what sport you play, everyone has to pay their dues and wait their turn. If you do that, the end result will be what you earn.

and I suspect that is the case for a lot of collegiate student-athletes.
I was one of the top/fastest players on my high school team. I was named all-region twice and all-state my senior year.
At the collegiate level, being fast doesn't make you special. Everyone is fast and everyone is really good. It was quite an adjustment going from being a big fish in a small pond to being a small fish in a much bigger pond.
The solution is to put your head down, go to work, get better, and earn the respect of your coaches and fellow players.
I may not have been the best or fastest anymore, but I was determined that NO ONE was going to out-work or out-hustle me. At the end of the day, there is no substitution for a good attitude and a strong work ethic, lessons a lot of the kids in the fast food world today never learned.
You have to keep working because nothing is given to you. There will always be someone, another really good and fast player, coming-in behind you who also wants to play and compete for your position/job.
