Lucky to still be a Tiger

Nov 25, 2013, 9:22 PM

Good evening Tiger brethren. I just wanted to share to all of you a story of heroics of volunteers who were willing to risk their life for mine yesterday. I shot a deer in a swamp in the ice covered waters of Western NY and tracked it until I got in to some trouble. After breaking through the ice knee high and reaching an island after it became waist high, I was stranded and exhausted to the point of not being able to return. I want to thank all the hundreds of volunteers that came to my rescue and saved my life. Of note while standing on a 3x3 muskrat lodge surrounded by frozen quarter inch ice, I thought of my friends, family, and all those should I not make it out alive. Luckily, seven hours after being submerged I was air lifted out after a volunteer fire fighter who was in worse condition than I after attempting my rescue. Funny thing, in all my delusion, I thought of possibly never seeing my Tigers play again. As an '08 Alum, I thank that school for changing my life and making me the person I am today, to the point of hypothermia, I still thought of my Tigers. Moral of the story, please all thank your local volunteer firefighters, as they put their lives on the line to save us when we find ourselves in compromising situations. I'm lucky to be here tonight typing to y'all, stay safe, and beat the gamecocks. Here's some footage if you'd like to see what these brave souls did to save a fellow alum:

Thanks for sharing.

As a hunter, I have to ask... How big was the deer? I am assuming they didnt air-lift it out with you!

Thank for y'alls care, it was about 180 lb dressed 6 pointer, I tracked real solid blood and didn't want to give up, I would have felt bad shooting a deer and not being able to harvest it, unfortunately it kept going out to the big water on the ice and it was never recovered. Once hypothermia set in for a few of us, we were more concerned with getting the heck out of there.

I hope we beat the heck out of the Gamecocks.***

so rescuers can find you quicker! Saying, don't be a dumb C*ock (did you get it?!).

Now..let's tell the TiGERs to git it done at WillieB and start their ONE-Peat!

Oh, glad you made it TigerMan!!!!!!

Scary story

Glad to hear you're safe. Some friends of mine are firefighters (unfortunately one of them is a die-hard SCar fan, but somehow we get along) and even knowing what they go through, the scope of how heroic they have to be doing their jobs is not something that I have ever been able to fully appreciate.

Wow....scary situation Glad you and rescuers are OK.
