Louisville’s last play…could Cunningham have

Nov 8, 2021, 7:10 PM

Thrown for a TD in the back corner of the end zone or had he already committed to the run?

Sorry if this question has already been asked.

I thought he had committed to run.

It was a rub rout with an option to run if the receivers weren't open.

The defense switched so no receiver was open and he tried to run but there was no room.

I don't know if there was a receiver open at the back of the end zone, but that would have been a heck of a find by the QB after he took off running.

Cunningham was an amazing runner but not a great QB. He didn't show any ability to go through progressions and aside from those two miracle passes on the last drive his accuracy wasn't very good.

There were times he flashed some Lamar Jackson-like playmaking ability but I'd have to agree he was definitely more of a QB he could do damage with their legs vs their arm (almost a perfect storm we ran into on Saturday).

Hopefully the next time we get them we are healthy cuz he's got about 1-2 more years of eligibility since he's a JR.

Castaway, that's exactly what I saw! Our DB's switched on

It looked like we fanned out as good as you could have in defending that play.

If Cunningham had tried to reverse it XT3 was ready to make the tackle and it was so crowded in the endzone he would have had to have crazy precision to make a completion.

Wish we had a reverse camera of what that play looked like because it looked like defensively it was executed about as good as you could get. (Thanks Skeletor & Co)

Just watched it again. Receivers were well covered. When Cunningham saw this he tucked the ball and turned to run. The defender in the back corner then moved toward the runner, which made it look like the receiver was open. Cunningham had been pulling up and making late throws all night, but this time it was too late; the Clemson defense had closed on him and he went down trying to cut in. One heck of a play by the Tiger defense!

I was really concerned when I saw them leave the receiver. I honestly thought he was going to pull one of those cute little jump passes.

Even at that, had not slipped trying to cut back in, he probably does chunk it. Heat of the battle. Good kid. Game of inches.

Still, didn't like Dabo not showing confidence in his QB and offensive unit on the last drive.

I saw that too but it as too late. If you watch the replay by the time he got open Cunningham was already ducking his head and trying to run.

Defense had it all covered.

Surprised me that they didn’t try to drag the tight end to the other side of the end zone.

How many Louisville O-Linemen were in the end-zone during M.Cunningham's scramble?

Of course, all 5 of them could have been in the end-zone ... and it wouldn't have mattered to those 'great' ACC refs if Cunningham threw a TD pass in the end-zone, because the ACC Refs would never call ineligible lineman (linemen) down field.

As glennjamin182® pointed out. it was played perfectly by our D. I think too much has been made about his injury.

1st down, a hand off to the RB stopped by great play and effort. This was their best shot at scoring.

2nd down, a QB run stopped by a swarming D.

3rd down, a QB run stopped by a swarming D.

4th down, a QB run stopped by a swarming D. Even if he had not fallen down, there were multiple defenders who would have finished off the play.

They got out coached and out executed.
