My guess is that being named AHC didn't make up for the sting of an analyst getting the DC position.

I don't think Bates or Reed were informed until after CBV departed. I am sure they both were surprised as Godwin, Conn and CDS all spoke how CDS told them years ago they be Co-DC's when CBV moves on.

Maybe. There is always a chance he feels burned by getting the big promotion that was handed to Conn/Goodwin.
But it could also be a pure business/career move without any emotional attachment. Conn/Goodwin promotion means that job won't be open for another series of years. If he's itching to make the move now, he has to leave.

Fair point but you would think as an Assistant head coach and Director of recruitment would offer a chance as a head coach or coordinator at a bigger school.

That has happened to me before and it is not a good feeling. I think that prompted him to leave. We will be fine but Dabo needs to hit us with some good news and not wait weeks to say anything like last time.

I am not questioning Dabo, just wondering if maybe I am just drinking the Kool aid. Lol I really liked Bates and his attitude. Glad he found somewhere he felt more needed.

Well, Bates got passed over for the DC job for an analysis and Conn which I guess is one of Dabo's buddies. Seems like it should have been a Goodwin/ Bates show. I don't know what Conn brings except he was a good HS coach.

We'll be ok next year because we still have enough talent on the team. But, look for a drop off in 2023.

He didn't get a legit promotion here during the re-shuffle (AHC? Yeah right) and I can't blame him for following CBV to OU and becoming co-defensive coordinator.

Sorry to lose coach Bates. Wish him the best at OU.
