Long Term Head Coach/Defense Coordinators

Nov 30, 2021, 3:50 PM

While folks are wringing their hands about BV, I'm getting the feeling that he and Dabo are going to be that long term pair like we saw with Bobby Bowden and Mickey Andrews or Frank Beamer and Bud Foster.

He has a great deal here. He will probably become the first 3 million per year DC and deserves it. That's plenty of money and he won't need a love offering anytime soon.

Oklahoma may not be the best place to go right now. They've lost a lot of 5-stars, both top QB's to the portal and will be going into the SEC with the talent of South Carolina. Also, I've been to Norman Oklahoma a few time and Brian Bosworth was right when he called it Siberia. If you like prairies, harsh winters, cattle and oil wells then that your place.

Oh come on... there's a huge difference between 2 million per year vs a 50 million dollar contract. It's perfectly fine to love Clemson and leave to take care of your family. You guys are hilariously delusional.

If BV stays, his contract will increase. Likely $15M for

Some people are content to be man-behind-the man. Not everyone wants to be in the spotlight. Bring a head coach is more about being a politician and a salesman then x's and o's.

He may go and I'll root for him to do well. But Oklahoma is damaged goods right now and he's currently in a gig that will give him more money that 95 percent of the swinging d(i)cks around the nation

Here is where the Bowden/Andrews analogy breaks down.

Mickey was a GREAT DC. Brent Venables is his equal. Both proved their excellence over a long period of time. I'm not sure any other DC could come close to their longevity of superb consistency.

But, here is the difference. Mickey did not have near the personality of Brent. He did not interview well. (I had a friend who said about one of his HC interviews. "He walked into the room with the job offer being virtually certain. He walked out without the job." That would not happen with Brent. If he made the process far enough to get an interview, the interview would seal the deal.

Mickey was a great guy, a great coach. But his ability to saddle up to boosters and the media were not a strength. He was a coach. Today you need a coach with just enough politician to make it.
