100% tnetters and the ethics of the TD

Nov 29, 2022, 8:51 AM

I just don’t get it. Did the thumbs down button not used to exist on here? Is there some primordial tnet force that just manifests tu’s for some of these guys even if they go around just calling people stupid all the time? I mean some of these guys I’m just like . . . How?

Take rhettfla or whatever. I gave him a bunch of td’s for going through and randomly shooting down a bunch of people who didn’t like dabo’s statements, but it doesn’t matter. His pulse is entrenched at 100% even though he goes around acting like a . . . you know . . . an angry little deck. Seems like that goodwill would’ve been dented a long time ago.

Not saying I’m immune to being a deck, but to me the ultimate stupid and annoying thing that posters do is complain that fans complain. So ironic and dumb. So when wueagle comes on and blabs about his adult daughter or whatever, I’m gonna make fun of him. In a way, it’s decky, but in another way it’s the ethical tnet thing to do. I don’t td him, though, because he’s providing great (albeit inane) content. Nor do I td the judge, whom i usually disagree with especially on brad matters. Yeah, he complains about fans, which I said is the ultimate sin, but it’s hilarious and foments a ton of controversy and conversation so . . . Judge is good for tnet. I will make fun of him, but not td him.

But then there’s the guy who sweeps through a post and just shouts down people for “complaining” when they post a legitimate thought, the dude who just repeats the same thing all angrily and basically says the conversation should stop. That’s rhettfla on the dabo “I don’t listen” thread. That’s where thumbs down come in for me.

Finally, dabo’s comments on the qb situation and getting put out to pasture sounded kinda like one of these angry tnetters. He fully deserves a 100% pulse of course. I just hope he’ll start acting like it again real soon.

Interesting comments on the pulse. Have no idea how it's calculated. I enjoy a no. of posters with "low" pulses; likewise, I see posters all the time with 100% pulses that amaze me. No doubt, I am also "that guy" to a number of other TNETTERS.

Nov 29, 2022, 9:01 AM

of our old b.s. sessions in the tin cans many years ago after games.

Everyone had opinions, expressed them loudly and angrily at times, and afterwards, usually drank a few brews together. No one...and I mean, no one allowed those sessions to get out of hand, because all understood why the adjective "bullsh*t" preceded the word sessions.

TNet is a fun site, even with our lurkers chiming in, so it's folly to get too-worked up over any of it.

Re: 100% tnetters and the ethics of the TD

Nov 29, 2022, 9:47 AM

I personally do not thumb down anymore and haven't for probably close to 20 years. The problem I have with TD'ing is it's anonymous and kind of, well, chicken. If I disagree with somebody enough to want to thumb them down, I feel I owe them an explanation for why and I'd rather just say it to their face than anonymously ding them. So I just don't.

Contrariwise, I try to be generous with thumbing up quality posts because if somebody is saying things that contribute to the conversation I feel it's good to reinforce it.

And at the end of the day they're just imaginary Internet points anyway, you can't even cash them in for a set of steak knives. If somebody doesn't like what I have to say and wants to rabbit-punch me with TD's...oh, well. Hope they enjoyed it, it's no skin off mine. I guess I have 18,411 imaginary Internet points or whatnot now as opposed to 18,412...whatever will I do? And having a thick skin is almost mandatory on the Internetz anyhow. So many keyboard warriors ready to loose flaming bolts out there with little if any provocation...you can let it effect your blood pressure, or you can just shrug and go: "you know, if he's acting like this, this probably ain't exactly a well-adjusted human on the other end of that keyboard." You wanna express your opinion about anything, there's always going to be folks who take exception with it.

So my philosophy is, try to be Zorro when you post. Be unfailingly polite and principled in your anonymity if possible, tip your cap politely to all you pass on the street...and if some grunting troglodyte does aggravate you enough to act, (metaphorically!!!) cut them up as elegantly as possible, and do it verve and style...and a smile on your face.

You do that, you wind up with a high pulse. Just my experience, anyway.

Nov 29, 2022, 9:56 AM

I’m just a little more liberal with the td’s . . . They’re somewhat rare for me, but not so nonexistent as you describe.

As far as anonymous td’s go, I’ll tell people when i td them unless it’s one of those uga fans. I just give them an anonymous td and move on sans comment . . . Cuz i deem that’s what i owe them.

Finally, that’s great to be zorro, but my style tends to be a little more roadrunner, an anvil on the head vs a carving with an epee. TU to you sir

Just stumbled across this. Easily triggered?

Yea, I’ve posted my opinions on the boreds more than normal this week. Don’t remember calling anyone stupid. I do remember telling a few people who called DJ big Stinko to grow up and anything is possible but my words get twisted on here all the time so go for it.

You are entitled to your opinion as well. I don’t mind when someone disagrees with me. We’re all different and some people make me really thankful for that.

I have no idea how points or pulse work and don’t give a rat’s ar$e. I very rarely use the TD or TU buttons but I probably have given more TDs and TUs this week than ever but IMO they were deserved.

Hope your day is going better today and you’ve figured out how to TD someone enough to really make a difference or at least enough to make you feel better.

I never TD someone for an opinion. The only time I use a TD is if someone is trying to make it personal, i.e. name-calling. Go after my opinions all you want but trying to go after someone personally that you don't even know is childish.

it’s a numbers game. rhettfla has over 6000 posts with 9000 TUs.

You have 498 posts with just over 1100 TUs.

The more active you are and the more posts you make with TUs dilute the TDs and won’t hurt your pulse as much.

Then you can afford to be an assshat on tnet for a few days. But after that you gotta collect a bunch more TUs to pad your TD barrier.

If you have an OCD follower like I do - who also uses shade accounts your rate can go from 98% to 56% just like mine has in 15 months or so. It is no big deal, I do know I have posted things where I understand a few TD's, that's no biggie... But when you have a psycho TDing your post of support of E11a and the Bresee family, that tells you their mental state. I no longer care about the pulse because the cowardly system means nothing to me. It should be transparent both up and down.

Someone said that when it gets too low the mods boot you, I suppose I'll find out soon. LOL

He even, at one point, became a paying member for a few months just so he could TD people. Problem is, you have OCD and you are a hardcore narcissist to believe that you are even one reason I'd spend my money. You are severely mentally ill. I mean, if I wanted to put you on ignore now and roll on with the TDs, that would only be a quick card transaction away if I were so motivated.

Only other time I'll TD is when someone has absolutely ridiculous takes or complains about the fans, which even then I don't TD that much because everyone on here is naturally b!tchy to some degree anyways if they are aware of it or not. Dec 1, 2022, 3:30 AM

I like be to blab about my adult daughter ( she is very special) because she loves Clemson athletics as much as I do and is a proud 2015 graduate. I mention her a lot because I post some of her ideas and opinions we talk about. She loves Clemson Athletics too. Plus I am very proud of her as a Clemson University graduate. I used to be slammed because I graduated from Winthrop. So he$$ yes I am very proud of my daughter and will mention her in my post.

I rarely issue TD’s other posters because we have freedom of speech and their opinions matter just as much as most the other post from Tigernetters. I TD posters who name players, criticize them , then through that player under the bus. IMO it’s fine to disagree and even criticize our coaching staff for play calling which hurts the team made. I feel our players and coaches weren’t prepared for the ND or SC game. But to go overboard after Dabo his staff and the team did not measure up to our standards against ND and SC, I feel is more harmful to the program.

Saturday I can only imagine the pressure some players felt going into the coot game. We lost to an inferior team but mistakes cost us the game. There were some coaching blunders too.

Overall I try to keep my post positive. I try to post about subjects that are interesting and will get many other TNetters to reply. Unfortunately at times times I really think some posters regress back to playground bully post. I don’t see where calling other poster’s stupid, calling them vulgar names or challenging them as a Clemson fan. With so many fans we will never agree all the time but we can respect one another. This shows that Clemson is different from all other programs and Clemson is where they want their kids to go. Then we truly are one big family.

There many great posters on Tigernet that sometimes let anger and emotions get the best of them. Then they post something spiteful or hateful directed at specific players.

IMO when we lose or do not play well I think it’s wrong to call out a specific player laying the blame for the lose at their feet. I believe it hurts the future success of Clemson Football and recruiting.

I would like to think our fan base is the best in college football. But when our fans react to a loss with a lot a hateful spiteful post like what occurred this past Saturday we become just like SC, UGA and OSU fans. we still l have an ACC Championship to win with a chance to still finish the season 12 and 2.

I still believe great days of success are in our future. But the team and coaches need our support.

From me and my adult daughter! Lol ???
