The Big12...... Let's take a look

Jan 23, 2013, 11:07 PM

at who they have lost. Ta&m, Mizzu,UC, and Neb. Look at who they replaced them with TCU? That is a joke.......... The Big12 is stuck in the heartland and outside of Texas has no TV market.... If the Pac12 invited OU and Texas do you think they would go? If they did would there be a Big12 anymore? Why Clemson would risk this move is beyond me because it isn't a sure thing. The Big10 yes the SEC yes the Texas league no thank you..... In five to seven years The ACC will be 16 members and very strong in all sports. The ACC Network could be huge for the ACC. Look at the Big10 Network I get it; it's content durning football season is 95% reruns, basketball drives this network. Who will have the best basketball content in two years? It will not be close.

TCU is a joke? This is news to me. They also grabbed another great program in WVU.

And that my friend is why the Big 12 is getting PAID. Nothing you said matters. ESPN doesn't agree with your ACC propaganda. That is why for the next decade Big 12 schools will be receiving 28 million while we receive 19 million.

You honestly think Swofford can handle an ACC Network? Dude cannot even right proper by-laws.

HOOOORAY Basketball money. With that basketball money we might be able to gas the bus up a couple times.

Are you comparing TCU to Texas A&M?

Jan 23, 2013, 11:27 PM

If so that is a joke..... Or UWV to Neb? If so that is a joke......... They have lost far more than they have gotten back it that simple. Have you ever met Swofford? If not you really are just blowing smoke you have no idea what he can or can't do.

And I think, now I may be wrong, But I think Swofford was still in high school when the ACC was formed along with their by-laws. :) And he is talking about the demand around the country, for teams Swofford brought to this conference and one half a$$ committed school as well. What do ya think?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Doesn't matter how good basketball is. Football is driving

Jan 23, 2013, 11:15 PM

this train and making the $$$$$$$.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Do you have the Big10 network? See what they are putting on

Jan 23, 2013, 11:22 PM

TV one live football game a week and quess what its not a big game. Do you think the Mich/OhioSt game is on the Big10 network? Most of their program is Basketball.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Basketball brings in a significant amount...***

That'd be wrong, for a conference to have it's OWN network,

Jan 24, 2013, 8:18 AM [ in reply to Doesn't matter how good basketball is. Football is driving ]

Basketball and baseball will drive that train as ESPN will still have 90% of the live football games.Like others have said, check the BIG 10 network, 1 live crappy FB a week with the rest being reruns.

Big 10 and SEC are the past 2 media fb darlings.

Jan 23, 2013, 11:17 PM

So much hype in this fb discussion. SEC and PAC 12 come to mind this year.

And yes, ACC Bball will be king for sure, not just hype.

The Big 10 was not a past media darling. They simply had a commissioner who was not a complete moron. The Big 10 actually sucks right now, but they are getting paid. Big 10 is setting themselves up to dominate in the future

They were before the SEC.***

I'll tell you why Clemson would risk a move to the Big 12:

Jan 24, 2013, 6:44 AM

Because the ACC may look completely different in a short while. It looks like Maryland has Swofford by his ball$ because the ACC failed to follow its own constitution when setting the $50 million exit fee.

When the fee gets pushed significantly lower, you are then looking at some ACC teams making moves. FSU (which voted against the fee), Virginia, Georgia Tech, North Carolina, Duke, Virginia Tech and NC State have all been mentioned prominently in conference realignment move scenarios.

Unless you are content with Clemson football remaining in the ACC with such schools as W. Forest, Syracuse, Pitt and Boston College, you do what you have to do: hold your nose, pack up and jump to the Big 12.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

A lot of ACC teams will take a look at a change this summer.

Jan 24, 2013, 7:17 AM

I don't think we'll lose many if any at all but you can bet the changes will bring interest.

I have a hunch that FSU, Virginia and GT will be gone in

Jan 24, 2013, 7:26 AM

short order. I really do. Is it worth staying in the ACC if those schools are gone? I don't know.

If GT goes, the ACC loses a huge media center.

lol, UVA can't leave VT...***

The devil you know is better than the one you don't know. Take a look at why Nebraska left:

http://sports.espn.go.com/ncaa/news/story?id=5276551

When the league formed, Nebraska football was at its pinnacle, having won three national titles between 1994 and 1997 and winning 60 of 63 games before Osborne retired as coach.

That success didn't translate to juice when it came to influencing league policies.

Nebraska and the old Big Eight members, all of whom went to the Big 12, believed they were helping out Texas, Texas A&M, Texas Tech and Baylor when the old Southwest Conference collapsed.

The perception in Nebraska was that the Big 12's balance of power was held by the South Division, particularly the University of Texas.

Nebraska from day one was against a championship game in football, for fear it could trip up a team bidding for a national title. But even issues ranging from academic admission standards to location of the league office (Dallas) chafed.

When the league last week picked Cowboys Stadium to host the next three conference championship football games -- after hosting the 2009 and 2010 games -- Osborne complained that continual treks south were unfair to fans of the North representative.

And no one in Nebraska has forgotten the controversial outcome of last year's conference title game. It looked as if the Cornhuskers had beaten the Longhorns 12-10 when the clock ran out, but one second was put back on, allowing Texas to kick the winning field goal.

Pelini yelled outside the locker room that Texas was given the extra second so it could go to the BCS Championship Game.

"This is not about any type of vindictiveness," Osborne said. "You don't make a decision of this size based on where you're going to play Big 12 championship games."

No it doesn't..it's like 20% of our ESPN deal

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: That'd be wrong, for a conference to have it's OWN network,

Jan 24, 2013, 8:58 AM

If its so crappy why is it bringing their conference multi-millions from cable subscribers?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

That'd be because of LIVE

Jan 24, 2013, 9:26 AM

Basketball, LIVE baseball while they're showing FOOTBALL RERUNS. Football drives the ESPN/FOX/CBS money , but the other sports is what drives the conference networks. 1 crappy live football game a week will not drive a conference network year round.
