Was choppy and rough earlier and a little hazy from the wildfires. Good walleye caught though

That's some nice bait you are holding up in the 2nd picture.

What are you going to try and catch with it?

Well nothing beats fishing in Santee Cooper Lakes imo. Stripper and Arkansas blue catfish rule.

in the day. Prehaps you meant STRIPERS? Or, nothing says it couldn't have been both, happeningg at nearly the same time, to paraphrase Mr. Gump.

:)

Strippers and catfishing on a SeaOx and drinking sounds like a fun day though. Just too old for that now

Santee lakes are not what they used to be. They have killed all the good vegetation for about 10yrs now, the fishing has taken a serious hit. Plus they used to let in 3-12million Atlantic herring every spring but reduction in water flow at Pinopolis ### has devastated that spring migration. They let in less than 300k herring this spring which is huge decrease in food source.

While you can have good catches of cats, stripers, or bass, the days of dropping almost anywhere and catching something don't exist anymore. I lived on Moultrie for many years when my dad guided and the fishing was phenomenal, almost unbelievably so.

That’s a shame. Used to go out of Hill’s landing and have great memories growing up there. I haven’t fished there in 20 years.

I looked at getting a guide and taking my three boys out but it never worked for all our schedules. Sad to hear it is in decline. Loved Moultrie best. Striper fishing and the stumps sticking up was cool as a kid

I read an article about Santee lake’s system . It was supposed to be a much deeper body of water but the Santee water system was needed for Oak Ridge Tenn. to expedite the making of the atomic bomb in WW II. So that’s why the lakes that make up Santee are so shallow.

In the main channel it about 30 to 35 feet. Most areas are about 15 to 20 feet. Even lakes part of Santee fill up with sediment which affects fishing. My uncle use to bring back 2 big coolers full of strippers. Too bad the fishing has died down. I liked fishing Santee lakes when fish were plentiful.

Be careful if you go up into the Niagara River; there's a bit of a drop halfway between Lake Erie and Lake Ontario. ;)

We caught about 10. And am guessing between 3lbs to 8lbs. I suck at weight guessing. Every time my wife says what do you think I weigh I respond and she slaps me sooooo

My son catches these trolling with the deepest diving bass plug he can find on a jet ski in the sandusky bay channel. He catches nice walleye coming in the channel to feed on the fish in the bay. He invented this and is the only one we have ever seen doing this - don’t give up his secret!

For the southerners, walleye like cold water and are typically deep in Lake Erie. They troll for them with planar boards to keep the bait deep. You don’t usually catch these in shallow water. Sandusky bay is shallow- but has a deep channel for huge iron ore ships. There are walleye there, but most people don’t know that.

Nice walleye. That is good eating fish right there. I love the big yellow perch too.

Beautiful! When we lived in Chicago for six years, we had walleye a lot. Loved it. Enjoy!
