The Echo Chamber Glass is Thick

Mar 29, 2022, 10:46 AM

IQ test: In general is the media uber biased?

Whether we like it or not, we conservatives live within your silly echo chamber. It cannot be avoided in the USA unless you deliberately try to avoid it. While in the chamber we see what you see, hear what you hear, but unlike you we can combine that information with logic, experience, and common sense and determine what is BS and what is not.

Leftists cannot do that.

True: "You can not possibly have been alive in the last five years and think that social media companies do anything other than amplify left-wing insanity and crush anything from the right that hurts the left"

You aren't a "conservative". You're a Morlock, staring balefully from the shadows out at the happier creatures cavorting in the sunlight, waiting your opportunity to kill and eat one of them.

I know you perceive these Eloi as "stupid"...but if you're so smart, why are you a Morlock?

That sounds a lot like anti-social behavior

Mar 29, 2022, 11:17 AM

to me Quozz, I mean being resentful and jealous is only natural, and something you need to address if you want to be a happy adult, but I too feel like there is a huge swath of this country that wants to see the whole thing come crashing down, just so everyone else is miserable like them, or quite possibly, they fantasize about riding around on a motorcycle in a post-apocalyptic world, wielding a crossbow, and taking what they want from the new underclass.

Pro-tip for those that share this delusion, gasoline only lasts a year at best, you will be huffing it with your crossbow after that, assuming you have not been eaten by someone else first.

But if you do think he is conservative, please send him your money.

Re: Thick glass on Echo Chamber makes leftists happy

Mar 30, 2022, 7:15 PM

It's not an accident that the leftists like for the glass to be thick on the national echo chamber.

Classic liberals enjoy (and thrive on) vigorous debate.

Classic leftists hate any points of view which threaten their propagandistic narrative.

Classic conservatives (of old times and modern times) have been so immersed in (previously) liberal and (currently) leftist points of view that the conservatives cannot help but be exposed to the ideology of the 'other side.'

No still-alive conservative can remember when the American media wasn't predominantly either liberal or leftist, so the conservatives of all ages never had to try hard to fine out what the other side was thinking.

Funny hearing a Trumper say they have common sense and logical.

I’ll give you a hint- there’s an echo chamber on both sides, and you are smack in the middle of one.

I always find it funny when people on either the right or left act as if the other side is completely crazy and unable to be rationale the way their side is. It's even more funny when both sides use extreme examples from the other side to make their points.

It's a lot like sports fandom IMO. Our rival fans are all classless idiots and we'll show you an example of that by linking a post from a rival fanbase where 2-3 of their fans are giving a stupid opinion on something.

Our rival has "thugs" on their team and here's an example of one of them throwing a punch in a game or getting arrested for something. Of course though when one of our players gets in trouble it's just an example of young people making mistakes.

Our team gets high ranked recruits because those recruits love our culture and coaches. The other teams get high ranked recruits because they paid those recruits to go there.

Our team had a great season because we're great and beat some really good teams along the way. That other team had a good record this season because they played a weak schedule and some of the teams they played were overrated.

Our team lost the game because the refs made some terrible calls and those refs probably wanted us to lose. The rival team lost their game because they suck and I can't believe they're trying to blame the refs for losing, what a bunch of whiners.

Similar to sports, some of the above can be true from time to time, but clearly one side is going to be slanted to see things in favor of the side they already support and will have a hard time being critical of their own side or giving credit to the other side.

Falsehood flies, and truth comes limping after it, so that when men come to be undeceived, it is too late; the jest is over, and the tale hath had its effect: like a man, who hath thought of a good repartee when the discourse is changed, or the company parted; or like a physician, who hath found out an infallible medicine, after the patient is dead.

Re: "Liberals Live in Giant Echo Chamber

Mar 31, 2022, 10:00 AM

I really think the bias from certain "news" stations on both sides is causing a huge divide in our country and social media is just an extension off of that.

I don't watch a ton of news, but have watched a lot more since the start of the Russian invasion into Ukraine. I would watch CNN for awhile and then turn it to Fox News to see if they had a different reporting location or perspective on things, and eventually I'd also turn on MSNBC.

It didn't take long for me to notice Fox nearly constantly talking about how Biden was to blame and how it wouldn't be happening with Trump in office.

It also didn't take long for MSNBC to start constantly talking about how Trump and many Republicans hadn't spoken out against Putin and that many seemed to favor what Putin was doing.

The talking from Fox and MSNBC has only gotten worse as time has gone on. CNN obviously slants to the left, but I haven't seen them get into talking pieces nearly as much as the other two stations. I've seen CNN comment on comments from certain things Trump and others have said, but I can sometimes turn on CNN for 30 minutes without them bringing up anything like that. With Fox and MSNBC I'm more surprised to not see them talking crap about the other side from the very moment I turn on the channel.

To go off of my sports comparison from above. It's a lot like reading a Clemson forum every single day filled with talk of how terrible South Carolina fans are and then being asked to listen and respect the opinion of a South Carolina fan about their upcoming season.

I truly do get it though. If you're watching Fox or MSNBC all day where people are telling you how stupid the other side is and how the other side is ruining the country then it's easy to start thinking that way. The people on those networks are great at speaking, they sound smart, and there's never a person brought on the air with an alternative opinion.

There's always two sides to something. If a politician is bringing up a "stupid policy idea" it's all too easy to hear those stations give every single reason why the idea is stupid. In many cases the idea may very well be stupid. However, odds are that politician at least has a reason for why they think it's a good idea. Not often enough do people go beyond the opinion of their own personal news source before going off to complain over how insane those ideas are.

I wish people ON BOTH SIDES would take the time to at least research and understand where the other side is coming from. At the end of the day it may not change their minds, but at least there could be better understanding. It's even worse than that though when a very high percentage of people base their opinions on a headline without ever reading the actual story.
