Leggett needs to go.

Jun 1, 2013, 11:43 AM

I have liked Jack Leggett. He's brought a lot to the game and he's done a fine job for a long time. But it is time for him to go.

Baseball is a competitive sport. Leggett has a lot of experience at evaluating talent and cutting the players who are not the best for the team. Players and coaches age out. Playes and coaches get cut. Like a good pitcher who pitched some good innings, Leggett has now lost his stuff and needs to get pulled.

Coach Leggett is a good enough coach and man that I think he ought to retire on his own, for the good of the program to which he gave his working life.

He's been our coach for 20 years. He's won two ACC titles and one was with a team he inherited. I appreciate his work. I like him. But it is time for him to go.

That's the thing, he's not a good enough man. He's a selfish errogant person that still thinks he walks on water. He can't be convinced anything. Never hire a yankee as your coach bottom line.

Seems to have worked out well for LSU and Alabama. Mike K is a Yankee and It worked out well for Duke I really don't see your point.

You are not the first one I have heard say this.

Jun 1, 2013, 1:15 PM [ in reply to Re: Leggett needs to go. ]

I meet a sports reporter in Maine who covered the Univ of Maine while I was there on a mission trip. I was really excited to talk to him about Jack since he hails from Maine.

When I asked what Jack was like a person, he just said, "Yeah ... he's competitive" and didn't say anything after that. The reporter's face and body language said it all.

I have also heard the same from others.

I played club soccer with his son for a few seasons (yes, the one who was on the baseball team because his dad was coach... And while I'm at it, this was also the same soccer team that starred the basketball coach's son - who was only on the basketball team because his dad was the coach (see where this is going?)) and they were pretty snotty kids to be honest. You wanna talk about cocky? Boy, they were. Neither Jack nor Larry ever made it to any of our soccer games.

Arrogant? Yes. However,

Jun 2, 2013, 12:37 PM

I went to school with the two individuals you're referring to from middle school through college. Yes, they are both arrogant coach's kids who thought they could get away with murder, but they both had talent. Leggett's son didn't even play high school baseball and still could hang with guys in college. He also had multiple injuries throughout high school and college. Shyatt's son was fundamentally sound and earned a walk on spot at Clemson. Personally I don't think either one was handed a spot on the team. They both had minor roles and were lucky enough to be able to say they played for their dad in college.

I know the original post was about letting Leggett go...I personally think he's done more for the program and university than just 2 conference championships. He has been consistent in recruiting, taken our guys to Omaha, and given many years to Clemson. I think it's easy to call for someone's head while dealing with a 4 year long dominattion of South Carolina. Who would you go get to replace him?

And just who do you propose wr hire. What coach worth his salt would want to work for a school that got for of a hall of fame coach. Maybe we did go through a lull with riginos but if you people can't see the young talent on this team and what we have recruited then maybe you are the ones with the problem. Hell wr started 6 of 10 freshmen yesterday

Yea I can see it too. History tells a nice pretty picture.

A wise man once said something similar to this. Those who dont learn from the past are doomed to failure in the future.

injection of energy and optimism in a bad way. The addition of Lecroy has helped some, but there needs to be a change at the top. As you said, Coach Leggett had a 20 year run. He was the coach in waiting before that. Clemson has been good to him. Every tenure has an end, and it is time for this one.

With that being said, I would love to see the Tigers find new life, and come back and win the regional. I will graciously consume my heaping helping of crow should that happen.
