Can anybody explain why this wouldn’t be an NCAA violation?

He’s done it before as well. The value just gets subtracted from their permissible benefits. The NCAA was fine with it then and there is no reason to believe they wouldn’t be fine with it now.

I had to look up what a “Beats by Dre” is. Some kinda headphones. Wireless. They start at $100 or so, go up to ~$350. I personally would not want to own these things, but I am not an 18-22 male.

It is a generous thing for LeBron to do and will make a very nice consolation prize. Score headphones, lose game.
