Lanning hire

Does that mean Venables said no? Either that or they couldn't come to a middle ground on the contract (which doesn't seem likely. If Venables wanted to go I think they coulda made a deal). Lanning is a great DC but doesn't have the history and Venables does with OU does he?

We will probably never know for sure but it only makes sense. IMO no way they would pick Lanning over BV.

Just because you have a better track record as a coordinator means nothing to your head coaching ability. No one cared about Dabos WR coaching before he became HC.

They could have very well interviewed BV and not wanted him. Just because you are good at the job doesn't make you a good manager.

This seems the most logical to me. BV hesitancy towards being a head coach, while beneficial for us, might be the very thing that holds him back from places like OU. If you ran a business, would you hire someone for a position they spent most of their career avoiding? Taking a position you don’t want simply because the money is good often leads to bad results.

Per SI Oklahoma there has been no announcement made yet. They retracted their story of a Lanning hire.
