Lannden Zanders scouting video

Jul 1, 2018, 7:21 PM

This kid is a bit of a late bloomer, but has amazing instincts and ball skills. When he fills out his frame, he should be a good one.

I agree. I like his film. I think he is a solid pickup. He will definitely contribute.

One thing I've noticed about our DB recruiting - we tend to recruit a lot of length whenever possible, except for maybe the nickel spot, where we've gotten a lot of play with the likes of Mackenzie Alexander and Ryan Carter, and we tend to recruit coverage skills over stopwatch speed. We had two NFL prototypes at one point in Jayron Kearse and TJ Green...and they also busted a lot more than the others because they simply weren't as natural in coverage.

We've gotten a ton of mileage lately out of guys like Robert Smith, Van Smith, and Jadar Johnson...guys who may not be NFL prototypes per the stopwatch but have the kind of length and coverage skills the coaches are looking for and Zanders looks like more of that ilk. He doesn't look stopwatch fast (probably 4.7-4.8, max) but that was exactly what the other guys were clocking as well, and he's just got that presence and swagger you look for in a natural centerfielder...he reads it and breaks on it as well as you'll see.

Those dudes were massively productive 1,500+ snap, multi-year contributors over the course of their careers, too, and Zanders looks like he might be another of those too. An NFL first-rounder? Doubtful, but he does a whole lot like what we've been recruiting at the S spot for awhile now.

'Course, he could flat bust, too. That's recruiting.

I've heard some things that Zanders may be down to the 4.55 range now.

And if Dax Hill and his 4.34 want to come I'm sure we'll take him.

Also Constantin had a 4 sec flat shuttle time at the opening. For reference I think the all time NFL combine time is 3.83. This kid could wind up getting a 5th star or at least finish in the the top 50.

To your point, I did not expect a lot out of Van Smith but he developed into a very good college back in 3 years, same with Robert Smith. I remember seeing RS in his first spring game and it was obvious that he was going to start. It was the swagger you mentioned

I like Zanders, the kid is a baller and has some great instincts. I can see why the coaches pulled the trigger with him early. He has a great frame, plays with a chip on his shoulder, and seems to find the ball.

Some of the most ridiculous ball skills I've seen for a S

He is definitely going to be a ball-hawk when he gets here.

Snowflake Basher........Out

Good post and strong film

A lot of them were can of corn INT's but good instincts, catches with his hands not body, moves well, and has length we're looking for. Needs to get in the weight room but definitely a guy that can make an impact.

Kids got impressive film. I especially like the fact that he makes a play and moves on from it without a bunch of showboating in between. He's a player no doubt.
