Kobe Pace RB?

Feb 13, 2021, 11:20 PM

So, what do you guys think? Will he sit behind Dixon in our line up, or will it be mellusi/mafah/shipley?

Imo, Kobe Pace will be in the thick of it and will be a contributor. It was fun to see the power back mowing over people, even if it was for 3 yards.

It will be super fun to watch our RBs compete this year!

We're going to be lot more meat-and-potatoes, inside-zone that we were. We don't need fancy, we need guys who will read their block, stick their foot in the ground, and slash it north-south between the tackles.

Lyn-J is a talented guy...when he does that. Where I've seen him get into trouble is when he turns his shoulders and starts dancing east-west, and that's when he starts losing yards and you start seeing angry body language happening over on the sideline with the staff, and I start seeing him playing left bench for extended stretches again.

Despite the fact that he hails from a Wing-T system in high school like Wayne Gallman did, you rarely if ever see Chez Mellusi turn his shoulders. He puts his foot in the ground and goes.

Kobe Pace didn't get as many at-bats as Mellusi, but he seemed similarly incisive, and I definitely did not notice any tendency for faffing around. He honestly reminded me a whole lot of the kind of RB you so often see at Bama under Saban. Just a pure hammer.

My guess is that Lyn-J is going to be on a real short leash with Mellusi, Pace, and Mafah behind him. He'd better keep his shoulders square, is all I'll say. Those three younger guys are straight beasts and none of them look like they'd be fun to tackle. Honestly those three together are probably the most violent and physical group of running backs - by a bunch - Dabo's ever had in his stable.

Shipley's an altogether different sort of guy, who I think will remind new RB coach CJ Spiller more than a bit of, well, CJ Spiller. You just want to find ways to get him the ball in space.

Good summary Q. I tend the think that Lyn J will have a big longer leash though. Dabo rewards players that put in the time and I think he will have a decent leash. The younger backs while maybe more talented seem to have shorter leashes. I think you will see Lyn J with less touches than ETN obviously but will still be the lead back by a good bit. I tend to think Mellusi will finish second within the RB room followed by Pace. After that it will be a toss up of mop up snaps for everyone else. I’d be higher on Mafah with his total package of power, vision, and speed but the injury I think will slow him down. Shipley will see some all purpose snaps and maybe 3rd and long snaps but not meaningful RB snaps I don’t think.

Dabo will play Shipley or watch him play at ND or UNC soon

And Bowman will soon excel at Florida.

Shipley will be a weapon from day one, the kid is very special with a crease & runs over people like a bull too.

Bowman will be much like Feaster unless he decides to put the work in on the field. It takes reps to be a complete back including in practice.

Mafah looks like he has a real shot to steal someone's lunch pale. I see him working himself up the depth chart because nobody really stands out on this roster. I see a couple of guys that could stick it out and be productive players, but there are no stars in this group.

Mafah seems patient, finds his hole, and uses what he has to burst through it decisively. He is not a burner, but seems to have "it".

I am also gonna go on a limb and say that Shipley ends up a slot receiver at Clemson. There is quite a log Jam and I think he is too skilled not to put in space with the football. I could see him becoming another Amari Rodgers, just my 2c.

Which are best at pass protection?

Feb 14, 2021, 10:40 PM

As always, that will be a big factor in choosing a starter at RB for Clemson.

Even though he will not start. May not even be in the 2-deep. Shipley will probably get a lot of situational snaps.

Shipley will be a running back that can play any skill position but we will use him as our RB because he is that talented as wr out of the backfield or a burner around the end. He’s a special talent, we were fortunate he chose Clemson!

He reminds me of the SC kid that played for Stanford & the panthers!

Stud in making, will be great blocker. I assume Mafah surpasses him after this year based on all the reports as Phil has the same big body but much faster.
