Kiser is a better passer than Mayfield, but that's not what makes him so good. He extends plays and scrambles as well as anyone this year. I remember watching the Tennessee game and could not believe how bad he made their defense look. That is more a knock on Tennessee than it is a compliment to Mayfield. The success Texas and TCU had at containing him is why I don't understand everyone on the Oklahoma bandwagon.

TCU didn't have any luck containing him. Their strategy was to make an obvious attempt to injure him (the TCU linebacker was ejected) and Mayfield left the game.
I recommend that Clemson employ the exact same strategies as Texas--surely OU will execute the same way.

Clemson has played and beaten 3 legitimate top ten teams. Not "hey we backloaded our schedule and are undefeated" teams. We've played better defenses than OU's and offenses that are probably at least in the same ball park. OU has not seen and offense or defense as good as the ones they will see when Clemson trots onto the field New Year's Eve.

Why can't you "used to be blue bloods" understand, y'all haven't played anyone with a defensive pulse. Seriously, we know how to play well enough defense to stop your offensive juggernaut that barely beat 3 teams back-up QB's, he!! Our back up QB beat the bejesus out of y'all! You haven't seen a team like Clemson, period! Please continue to believe all of the eSECpn hype....please!

Here in the south, what Okies call "scrambling" we know it better as "running for your life!" I think he's a good QB but too much hype, we've seen better quite honestly, that Syracuse 5th stringer looked better than what I've seen of Mayfield. He's also entirely too tightly wound emotionally, he wears his emotions on his sleeve and we'll just knock them off! Go Tigers!

If he scrambles so well why does he get sacked so much? They were only like +2 on sacks this year.
Us??? We were like +25 as Watson was only sacked 12 times.

I'm starting to believe it's more his fault than his line's... He was sacked 24 times in 2013 at Texas Tech.

Better than them individually, but it's the combination that makes them so good. This will be the best offense with seen, probably, but UNC and Notre Dame are probably on par offensively. I think the big difference is FSU , Boston college are better defensively. Notre dame and Louisville are probably equal to if not better on defense

Since I didn't elaborate. I think we will score on them, our defense just needs to make a few stops. As long as we don't turn the ball over, I like this matchup. But I still say Oklahoma will be tougher than Bama or Michigan state offensively

It's less about your defense and more about who's played defense against you. All you hear about is Shepard, Mayfield & Perine. It's air raid this, air raid that, plays per game, how you spread the ball, etc.

Yards per game isn't a great metric, especially in the

Big XII. Yards per play and efficiency stats are much better for judging a defense because they help adjust for tempo. Oklahoma defended 78.1 plays per game compared to 66.3 for Clemson. Oklahoma finished 9th in yards per play, Clemson T11th. OU was 3rd in Football Outsiders DFEI (def eff) and Clemson was 7th.

it's not that I KNOW anyway. Just my opinion from watching both of them play several games this season. I will say this, Kiser has a much better core of receivers, after OU's main guy they have significant drop off, but I think OU's QB is like a big Jonny Football, better passer and harder to bring down than Manzel. Really impressed with him. I think he is by far the best all around QB we have seen this season. Overall, I think OU's offensive is a lot like UNC but with a better passing game.

OLT, I think UNC and Notre Dame have more playmakers on offense, Just really impressed with their QB . I think what makes OU so good on offense is the play calling. They play great as a unit and their OC is really impressive, but with have Coach V to counter that, but LR is a great OC

6 degrees of separation...
Baker Mayfield was a So. @ Lake Travis HS when The Chad was there as HC.
And he is no where near as good as JFF and he's smaller as well. Baker 5'11 JFF is 6'
I'm not skeered...

Maybe it's time you stopped drinking tonight. I can't believe you just compared Mayfield to JM. That is insane.

I did compare him to Manzel. He is a good scrambler. And he is a lot thicker and harder to bring down. I don't drink BTW

One could make the argument that William Fuller is comparable to Sterling Shepard also given the attached 2015 stats.
And Mack held Fuller to two catches for 37 yards.
Going to be a good game!

CUYankee, I think Notre Dame and UNC have more playmakers than OU. Like I said in the last post, It's OU's QB and OC that make them so good.

No one is arguing about the impressiveness of the air raid offense or Baker Mayfield's ability. The fact remains, they haven't played a defense like ours all year and somehow Mayfield has still managed to get sacked 36 times against inferior defensive competition.
Graphic attached for everyone's enjoyment.

CUYankee, totally agree this will be the best defense OU has seen all season. I think that we have faced better defenses in FSU, Boston College and think Notre Dame and Louisville are as good if not better on defense than OU. I also don't think OU's OL can block our DL

Love this thread, some good stuff. I've been utterly impressed with Kizer since our game with him. He has gotten better and better and his best trait is his awareness in the moment. He reminds me an awful lot of DW4 (and this is coming from a LIFELONG Notre Dame despiser!!!).
As for Mayfield, the guy who said his best quality is extending plays hit it head on. He's not the best passer and he's not the best runner. But #### if he doesn't tap dance around like Johnny Football used to do on what should be routine plays for loss and turn them into momentum-killers. You absolutely must have LBs who stay in their lanes and disciplined edge rushers or he could hurt us big time.
GO TIGERS!!!

Who cares!? We won that game. You guys are the ones that lost in October, not us.
So he's made first team All-American. Congratulations, that's honestly an amazing achievement for the young man. But did he win the O'Brien? Was he a Heisman finalist? Is he undefeated? Is he the passing leader in the Big-12 or is he ranked fourth?
No wonder this kid acts like he does. Y'all have him thinking he can fly. Football is a team sport man. The media has you gassed believing this is going to be a boxing match between Deshaun & Baker. The best team wins, not the player with the prettiest resume.
