Probably not.

badge-donor-05yr.jpgmilitary_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Hope he returns like most of us..

May 23, 2016, 8:18 AM

I think we will be a 2nd round in the tournament type potential team with his return. I don't think we make the tournament if he doesn't return. My gut is that he is gone though, but that means little.

Tough to tell. Its border line. I figure he will get told what he wants to hear. Come out and go mid second round. Thats usually howthis stuff goes

key here is "what the kid wants to hear"....

May 23, 2016, 9:31 AM

if I were Jaron and I was getting jerked around like it appears is happening,

I would consider coming back to college

but transferring to a top program where I could likely play for a Natty.

I'd look for a program needing an athletic wing

that wanted to make me the center of the offense.

kill 2 birds with one stone:

get absolutely needed work on skill-set but get National exposure for next year's draft as well.

doesn't help the Tigers, but he's given his 4 years

and it's no worse on us than him going NBA either.

he can graduate in the summer and thus could transfer

if he wanted.

you have a problem with the kid looking at ALL options?

Don't think he's graduated so he can't transfer.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

He could potentially finish over the summer

May 23, 2016, 10:09 AM

but after his combine I expect him to just go ahead and go pro. If he decides to come back I'll be very pleasantly surprised.

I do believe.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Playing for Clemson will give him plenty of exposure.

May 23, 2016, 2:46 PM [ in reply to key here is "what the kid wants to hear".... ]

His issue is that teams know who he is, but want to make sure that he is not just a one-hot wonder. It's not that he is some unknown who plays division 3 basketball.

a marquee program.

That's just a fact, and it's high time Clemson people come to grips with it -

otherwise they just keep acting like children when it comes to the basketball program.

He could make much more of a splash playing for

a Villanova, Duke (really not possible though), Kentucky,

Kansas, Maryland, or Connecticut-type program though.

The other part of my thought though would be that the transfer option would allow

him to find a team that specifically fit his needs -

not that Clemson necessarily won't.

We'll need defensive post players and rebounding and that works for his growth,

as well as playing out on the wing on offense here.

But he'd certainly have the same sorts of opportunity with greater promotional upside

at a more prominent, big-city, historic program.

And while I agree NBA teams want to see him "do it again",

primarily that's because he is so much potential and measurables right now, and not specific skill sets.

It is the lack of skills in certain areas that undermines his current value.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Nobody said that Clemson is a marquee basketball program.

May 23, 2016, 8:09 PM

I'm not sure why you are lecturing us about that. The point is that a first team All-ACC selection gets plenty of attention. The fact that he was not initially selected for the NBA draft combine, and is not in the first round on any mock drafts, has nothing to do with people being unaware of him and everything to do with the fact that he has no clear-cut NBA position.

JB is tall and athletic, but does not have the bulk, post game, or rebounding numbers for a true power forward. While he shoots well from the outside, he does not defend the perimeter consistently nor have the ball handling skills needed to play small forward. Thus, NBA teams need to see more of one or the other next year before making him a first round pick. They want to make sure this past season wasn't a fluke.

Obviously, Jaron can take the gamble and hope that a team picks him up in the second round and sticks with him long enough to allow him to hone his skills. The initial signing bonus and contract, while not guaranteed, are certainly tempting. However, I think he would be much better served returning to college. Clemson gives him the opportunity to do it at the highest level of college basketball, so no need to transfer.

the point was purely that he absolutely did add to his stock

May 23, 2016, 11:24 PM

at the combine, so obviously there has been some discounting of his talents prior to that event. That can only be because he comes from Clemson - nothing else. Put "UNC" on his chest and they'll be comparing him to MJ or "Sweet D" Walter Davis or Vince Carter. Let him go play in Philly or Lexington or Durham or Lawrence, and that would change overnight because their players get a "scouting bump" just because they come out of the "program", and those teams' highlights make every SportsCenter - every one. And B-game does look good on highlights. Just sayin'.

But look:

I said: "I'd look for a program needing an athletic wing".

You said: "JB is tall and athletic".

I said: to "get absolutely needed work on skill-set".

You said: "he does not defend the perimeter consistently nor have the ball handling skills needed to play small forward".

so wtph?

Anyway: Jaron IS a SF in the NBA, but as you said, he just ain't got the skills. Simple as that. And BTW, he ain't that tall - there's plenty of 2G and PG types hovering near 6'6" in the NBA, and JB better understand that they can all run and jump.

The problem is that the kid makes All-ACC one year and Clemson fans (not you JK) go ape-sheatt trying to get him to come out early. Clemson people just need to start buying tickets, show up for games, and then shut the hail up about their opinion of the game. They're generally just too ### inexperienced and uninformed to have a real opinion. It's like listening to most Wake Forest fans give opinions on college football. It's patently stupid.

But I do believe he deserves the opportunity to look at all options. And that includes the transfer option. I'd just be very careful if I were him and doing that - making sure I got some real guarantees from the coach before hand.

What the kid really needs to do, instead of showing up at some watered down "combine" for potential late 1st rounders and below, is to go find Buddy Hield of Oklahoma and Kris Dunn of Providence and beg them to work out with him for two to three weeks. Those kids would beat his ever-living brains in because they are ballers of the like he has never seen, not even with Malcolm Brogdon. Then he would really see what he needs to do in the coming year. BTW - both those cats came back for an extra year and made boatloads of money doing it.

But hey, whaddoIknow? As far as anyone knows here, I've never picked up up a BBall in my life.

Good luck, JB.

But wasn't these "All World Basketball Guru's" saying that KJ McDaniels would be a first rounder back when he left early for the NBA draft? Wasn't he expected to be picked in the top 20, and fell to the 2nd round, and has played bench warmer through most of his NBA career. Now, is Jaron Blossomgame a better more talented player than KJ McDaniels was when he left early for the NBA draft. There isn't nothing safer, or nothing that can assure a player that they made the right choice better than getting everything they can from their full college career.

I agree all orange, college allows for significantly more

May 23, 2016, 4:31 PM [ in reply to Re: Blossomgame 1st round? ]

growth than the pros.

So sure, KJ's made a lot of money,

but what he will make now has a top-side effectively.

He'll never be more than what he is,

a spot player, whose athleticism outweighs skill deficiencies.

The pros will never give him the PT to truly gain more effective experience.

So as long as he won't spend more over the rest of his life than he's made

basically by the time the athleticism starts to wane,

he should be fine. And personally, I think he will.

But who in their right mind "caps" their own earnings potential by capping their growth?

You'd never see a Doctor, Lawyer, CPA, Professional Engineer, etc. do something like that.....

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: I agree all orange, college allows for significantly more

May 23, 2016, 6:15 PM

Congrats on one of the more rambling and incoherent posts of the day. In every field you mentioned people make decisions that can "cap" their growth potential. A med school student can pursue an MD/PhD which would provide more potential upside than either on its own. They could pursue a MBA in addition to their MD and move towards hospital adminstration which would usually pay more than most general practice areas. Every additional degree/certification/specialization takes time and money. Some people simply have to begin work. Some people take certain jobs that "cap" their potential because they aggressively pay off loans. Every day, in every one of those fields, people make decisions about their future primarily based on their own personal economic reality. Virtually all of those decisions place a "cap" on the potential earnings. That is no different than what KJ did and his decision paid considerable dividends so trying to denigrate that decision, especially under the guise of being a Clemson fan, is pitiful.

Re: Blossomgame 1st round?

May 23, 2016, 4:40 PM [ in reply to Re: Blossomgame 1st round? ]

And I saw where someone put idiotic post of the day on this thread earlier, I bet they didn't read this one!

A Clemson basketball player in the NBA!!! How cool is that!!! But this guy has nothing but bad to say about the decision that KJ made for KJ and KJ's family, not the Clemson fans.

KJ has done nothing but good things since he got to the NBA. When he was on the floor for Houston he was nothing but a highlight reel!

The only reason he isn't still in Philadelphia is because he was out performing his 2nd round contract and they were going to have to pay him big money, and they can't afford to do that when they have 4 years worth of #1 picks on their team

I know you stop caring after you can yell "Go Clemson!" when they are playing but at least get your facts straight before you put down a Clemson player.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Worked out well financially for KJ.
