Aug 4, 2021, 11:41 PM

the final because of pisss poor baton exchanges! I'm 70 years old and I could pass the baton better than those USA dudes!!

Pretty pathetic that we can't exchange the baton!

I ran the 4x100 a few times for my HS in the 80s ... the baton exchange is not as easy as one would assume .
Disappointingly, the US failed there and now won't medal .

Correct. Especially when running 25+ mph in a high pressure competitive race.

Sometimes the road to the truth is so elusive it's confusing and reality becomes illusion.

It's not easy, but the runner receiving the baton isn't even

putting his hand in the proper position to receive the baton!

I ran a lot of relays, you are being kind.

Baton passes go smoothly the majority of the time. Even in high school, a bad baton pass would be inexcusable and infuriating. Baton drills are super easy and wouldn’t take 15 minutes per practice.

America has had a lot of baton issues over the years and I just can’t understand it.

Yes, it is very difficult. Funny that all of the other teams seem to be able to do it though.

I watched the replay on the internet (won't bother with watching the woke network airing) and although the exchanges were very sloppy, when the USA anchor leg runner got the baton they were in third place and then he was passed by several runners and ended up in sixth (next to last). I can understand the sloppy exchanges (that always is the case with self centered US sprinters), but the slowness of the last leg runner is puzzling.

We have a long history of dropping the baton and getting DQd

in the mens 4x100. Is this better or worse than that? Not sure.

As a former HS T&F coach, I’m amazed at how bad our relays have been for the past 20 years. I rarely saw any HS relays look that bad with handoffs.

They did pretty much everything wrong and it was obvious that they don’t practice handoffs enough. Plus they had the runners in the wrong positions…you take a guy that normally runs the final leg (meaning that he doesn’t normally hand off) and put him in the middle? Not without a LOT of practice.

HS kids do a better job with the baton. At least they didn’t drop it…
