Just to keep us grounded, and thankful for the roll we are

Dec 15, 2018, 10:31 AM

now on: There is a post going on now about "What was your BEST time at a Clemson game?" This one is the opposite. What was your WORST time at a Clemson game? I'll start, with what has to be a scrong contender for the all time title.

THE ROACH, 1975: It was a middle of the day game with the Coots, who had Jeff Grantz at QB, and ran the Veer offense. The Roach had artificial turf back then, not the type that is prevalent now, but low pile, slick crap. My seat was low in one end zone, and the glare from the sun made the entire field look totally white. You could not see sidelines, yard lines, or any other field markings. You had to depend on the zebras to decipher what the result of a play was. And, since we had only won TWO games and lost EIGHT that year coming into the game, that end zone is mostly where the small Tiger contingent was relegated. The rest was just screaming chickens.

Grantz ran for about 165 yards that day, and threw for quite a few more. Final score: 56-20. Bad Guys. There were other games back in that era where we were beaten worse, but this was the COOTS, for crying out loud. I still get almost physically ill thinking about it. Only the depression during their 5-bomb run comes close.

Enjoy the ride we're on, because there have been far different ones, and could be again.

Anybody got a more depressing candidate? :)

I was there, hungover as hell, they called timeout with less than a minute left to set up a TD throw - Karma is good.

my brother was there that day

He remembers the beat down to this day. He also remembers the coots throwing the ball late in the game to set up that last second touchdown. One major reason not to show that crowd mercy. Let them cry and whine all they want. Who cares. Just remind them Karma is a #####. Sit back, let Dabo and the team do what they do best --- just win, and enjoy the ride, because we are truly fortunate to be living in the golden age of Tiger football.

I remember that we put together a drive just before the half, and completed a pass, then ran out of bounds in field goal range. But, the zebras got together and huddled, and decided that there was not in fact any time left on the clock, and would not let us attempt the FG. Had we made the FG, score would have been 20-10 at halftime, instead of 20-7, and we would have had a little momentum. You could see how deflated the team was running off the field. It got ugly in the second half. I have always wondered how different the result might have been if we kicked that FG going into the half. Probably not much difference, but, MO is a big thing, you never can tell.

roasted by Texas Tech after yet another mediocre year down in Orlando. I was there, and it was miserable.

Night game versus BC and Matt Ryan

I was there in the upper deck!!!! Cold was an under statement for that game. And from the upper deck you could see real clear that BC RB waiving in the end zone for the ball. He was wide open when Ryan threw it for the BC game winning TB. Cold and lost! Not a good ride home!

My stroll down the memory lane of misery:

I attended the 1994 State Championship game in Clemson and we got beat 33-7 to finish the season 5-6 and no bowl game. That SUCKED! T West coached his first full season that year and I think most true fans knew we were in for a rough ride with him as our Coach.

A friend of mine at the time won 2 tix with a trip on Bobby Hartin's party bus from Charleston included to take about 40 to the game. Mostly Coot fans and as you are sure to surmise it was a miserable ride home. The bus driver got lost in Greenville and it took us about 5 hrs to get back -all that time with those drunk Coot fans ragging on us. That was about as low as it has been for me.

Went to CU from 80-84 so enjoyed Ford the glory days, Hatfield was pretty good follow on, then came the downward Tommys trend (what was up with having TWO Tommys in a row???), now so happy my Tigers are on the top of the mountain again with DABO as our coach!

GO TIGERS crush the DOMERS!!!

Gator Bowl 2001. Va tech with Michael Vick just torched us on that cold, miserable day. My ex wife’s nagging and complaining didn’t help the situation either!!! So thankful we have crushed them recently
