Just realized we have ONE Senior on the offensive 2-deep.

Assuming Juniors Justyn Ross, Joseph Ngata, and Frank Ladson come back next season, it would mean returning 21 or 22 two-deep players on the offense. I've never heard of that much before?
Even if Ross and Ngata try to jump to the NFL, that's 19 of 22 back for another season.
But that's not say this season is over. DJ had his best game against BC then followed it up with a better graded game against Syracuse. He had 4 dropped passes against BC and 5 dropped passes against Syracuse, otherwise things may not have been so tight. That MUST improve. Our OL seems to be coming together, even though Rayburn will not be back this week. RBs are playing aggressive and getting more comfortable. No, we're not nearly playing up to capability yet, but it is moving forward.
Obviously it will take a BIG jump in offense to stay with Pitt and take some of the pressure off the defense. They can't hold up all day against Pitt.

Have you not watched how much we have struggled? Young, inexperienced and not as talented are the words that describe us so far.

Much of our problem is the media dogged the ACC out as usual & built us up to be unbeatable in the ACC despite losing 4 nfl players including the 1st pick & another 1st round pick.
We need to be realistic, our offense has been incredible every year except 2017, and we weren’t bad that year.
We will be ok because we still have one of the top 5 rosters in all of college football talent wise.
It might be next year before we are as good as we are used to being.

Not sure what we lose on defense but I know that we have an awful lot coming back. Next year's defense very well could have more talent than this year's when we were still healthy.

If B.Bresee comes back to his pre-ACL injury form in 2022, then we will again be very formidable on D. Losing X.Thomas will hurt some (no comparable speed rusher with XT's power), but our D-End corp will also remain formidable next year.
Even though we will lose A.Booth & M.Goodrich at Corner and N.Turner at Safety, we have the quality depth (which is developing nicely) to overcome those 3 losses. Also, several true studs are coming in as freshmen next year, some of which may be able to provide quality depth before end of 2022.
The biggest worry will be the knowledge and leadership which we will lose when J.Skalski and B.Spector leave the LB position. L.Bentley and B.Carter have obvious talent, and will hopefully continue to learn the nuances of the defense. Maybe the Trotter kid will evolve quickly as far as learning the defense (his dad is a terrific 'knowledge resource' which will undoubtedly help Young Trotter's development). And of course we will have another year of the supremely talented (and already highly productive) T.Simpson.
And for those who poo-poo J.Venebles abilities and knowledge, he is the next likely 'brains' of the LB Corp (with K.Patterson being experienced enough by next year to potentially step in) to be valuable contributors.
So if the LB's can acquire enough knowledge to replace some of J.Skalski's and B.Spector's brains, then we may very well be better next year on D than we are this year.

Leadership is going to be the big thing that we lose. I would say on pure talent Bentley is already ahead of Skalski or Spector. I don't know what our early schedule will look like next year, but at the end of the year as we gain experience, I think the LB corp will be formidable.
I think that you forgot about Myles Murphy. He has been quietly good this year, but he is still a monster. I believe that with the COVID year last year that XT and Goodrich can technically stay. I expect for XT to be gone, but if he is able, I expect for Goodrich to hang around. We'll see, but we should be pretty good regarless.
