Just one thing changes our offense for the better

Oct 24, 2021, 11:43 AM

OL.

When was the last time we needed a first down against a legit DL on 3rd and 2, and you were supremely confident our back was gonna get 3 yds if not more? Read that again.

Now consider Bama OLs and RBs.

Currently, our offensive debacle is a clusterf_ck of good throws dropped by receivers followed by open receivers missed by bad throws followed by missed blocks followed by missed blocks followed by missed blocks. There was a play yesterday where Blackledge astutely pointed out that DJ took his eyes off the receivers and down to the rush. He doesn’t have faith in the OL to protect him.

Who here doesn’t believe if we put Sam Pittman in as OL coach after this season all is well next year? Now I know he’s not available, but someone out there is a phenomenal OL coach just dying to get his hands our OL recruits.

You are onto something. The OL sucked pretty bad as evidenced by the fact that we only averaged 5.5yds per carry yesterday. And then there were the two interceptions that they threw in addition to all the other overthrows. And don't even mention all the passes that they dropped.

I agree OL is atop the list of things to fix. Having a great O line in college football helps you push the ball downhill in every aspect of the offense. But I can’t say that alone would be a cure all for Clemson. Our scheme is garbage right now. It’s old, stale and not a fit for the players we have. We need significant improvement at QB. For as many times as DJ has one of eye on the rush, he has time, stares down a single player and/or gets rid of the ball late. Personally, I think DJ is a bit better than what we’re getting out of him but he’s here and we do what we do and imo he’s a really bad fit for RPO. WR blocking and drops are bad right now and our lack of different types of WRs, specifically no slot WR, is a problem. A better OL could helps some of those things but a lot of other issues are still there.

Agree! You can tell that DJ doesn’t trust the line. No confidence in them whatsoever! Pitts line protected Pickett and did a great job vs our stud oline

Did we miss on some these 4 star OL recruits or

are they young/experienced or a combination of both?

As another poster said, it's probably the biggest issue amidst a pile of issues and the play-calling is not getting anything out of "who we got".

#### ###### OL also decided to throw three straight incomplete passes right before halftime running only :20 seconds off the clock and preserving Pitt's timeouts so that they had the best possible chance of scoring again before halftime - Which they did.

They were actually run blocking pretty well and to see them just quit like that and switch to the hurry up pass offense really makes me wonder how much they really want to play. Caldwell should shoulder a lot of the blame. And Batson too while we're at it.

Find a QB who can throw accurately, run quickly, not telegraph his throws, and develop some touch. This offensive problem is not complicated. We have a total bust at QB and will never win consistently with him at the helm. Look at his offensive stats for the season. He is one of the worst QBs in college football. He came here as a 5* recruit and is playing like sh!t. Is that because we missed on him as a recruit or can't coach him? I don't know the answer to that, but I do know that I have never seen a decent football team with a QB this bad.
