Just imagine if we were in the SEC

Jan 21, 2013, 11:53 AM

And how good our recruiting classes would be. We already have top 10 back to back classes from being in the ACC and we already beat the coots just about every year in recruiting. 3 out of out 5 decommits this year have committed to SEC and we are almost certain that RN and Kamara will be ole miss commits. With Dabo and co having to recruit against SEC and bringing in the recruits they do, it makes you wonder what we could do in the SEC.

There's pretty much zero logic to thinking that our decommits would not have happened had we been in the SEC. There are always exceptions, but in general, that's not the way recruits think. Playing against particular schools will make a difference. Playing in a particular offense will make a difference. The atmosphere on game day matters, but the atmosphere on campus at 11:00 Tuesday morning probably matters even more. The relationship between the players and the relationship with the staff matters. Training facilities matter. The academic support matters. Distance from family matters and a ton of other things besides what conference we play in.

Name 3 teams that have a better chance to beat the SEC (Bama) in next year's MNC.

Louisville will contend, but you make a good point.

Shouldn't you beat Carolina, in Columbia first, before talking about taking on Alabama for the national championship? You haven't got within 10 points in the past 4 years. And we lost NFL talent plus a great Defensive Coordinator in those other years.

Jan 21, 2013, 12:20 PM

This is somewhat twisted when you look at our decommits and/or misses. Most of these kids are looking at all sec schools and Clemson. I take that as a great compliment when the only non-sec school they look at is us. My point being, if we don't get them, one of the sec schools will. The only other ACC school in that situation is fsu. The two RBs that we were looking at last year ended up at uga, clowney was down to us and usuc. The list goes on and on. To your point, we may get some of these kids if we were in the sec, but not as many as you think.

Since it will never happen, I try not think about that. There is no denying that we miss on many recruits every year because we are not in that conference, but there isn't one thing we can do about that, so why even think about it?

about becoming a great person, getting a great education, and being part of something special on the football field. Its about the school. Did USC and UGA get SEC national champ rings this year? I think not.

Excellent Post!!! For those of you Big 12 and SEC seekers, read the following excerpt from Forbes Magazine!!!

Forbes: ACC, SEC rank 3rd, 4th in valuations

January 16, 2013

The Southeastern Conference isn't No. 1 in one category: Revenues.

Forbes released a list Wednesday of the estimated annual revenues for the top conferences in college sports. The SEC, boasting the reigning national champions in football and men's basketball, is fourth.

But that will likely change soon, because most of the money comes from television deals, and the SEC is renegotiating its contracts after expansion.

The Big Ten is No. 1 with revenues of $310 million -- $250 million of that coming from TV. The Pacific-12 is second at $303 million and the Atlantic Coast Conference third at $293 million.

The SEC had revenues of $270 million.

Forbes' financial data came from the NCAA, BCS, conferences, news reports and estimates.

Jan 21, 2013, 2:31 PM

Yes, clemson has outrecruited Carolina in 7 of the past 9 years.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

This is the very reason the coots on here oppose it.

Jan 21, 2013, 3:49 PM

They will reference the advantages they have all day long but ask if they want us in their conference and you will get no response or a no. Top ten consistently is good enough for me. Five coot fans in my office and only one says he wood be in favor. The others are clear that they want the money adv because it is the main thing that cn help them .
