make the 12th week conference semi's, and still have conference championship games the same weekend...
Everyone plays 8 conference games, nad 3 OOC..
Just use the 4 team model we are going to for conference championships, and expand the national playoff to 8 teams. Take the 5 conference champions, and 3 at-large picks. Heck, you can even keep the BCS rankings if you want something to measure the at-large picks by.

The loss of that 12th game would likely equate to a sizeable revenue reduction for many of those teams?

the way conferences are set up and championship games are held...
for example... I think there should be a clause that somehow the best two teams play for hte title, regardless of division. That's not Clemson driven.
I don't know... maybe a rule that says if a team has a better record by more than one game than the other division winner, they take their place.

having divisions doesn't make much sense for making sure the two best teams play for a conf champ.
I don't see why we couldn't just take the teams with the two best conference records and have the (re)play each other for all the ACC marbles.

I oft maintained that we should play everyone in the league which would be 11 games and themn one OOC game (in our case that would be against $CU) against $CU.
Eliminate the Divisions and just let the top two teams play for the Championship.
No that there are 14 teams, I'd would favor something similar to what you have suggested.

And rotate the schedule accordingly. Best 2 conference records play in championship game. You would still play every conference team at least once every 2 years.

Divisions are required to hold the championship game. If we're going to change the rules, why not just get rid of the conference championship game and give everyone a 13th game?
Then we can declare conference championships based off the records like it was successfully done for decades until the SEC found a loophole they could exploit to make more money.
