Not saying there is going to be a 16 team conference. Just having fun playing "what if?"
West:
TX, aTm, OK, Ark, Mizzou, LSU, Ole Miss, MS ST
East:
Bama, Auburn, TN, Vandy, UK, USCe, UGA, uf

It will still come down to Bama in the East ,then perhaps Florida and UGA and LSU, Oklahoma, and maybe A&M in the West.

I'm in the camp that it will go to four 4-team pods.
Something like:
West
Missouri
Oklahoma
Texas
Texas A&M
South
Arkansas
LSU
Mississippi State
Ole Miss
Central
Alabama
Auburn
Tennessee
Vanderbilt
East
Florida
Georgia
Kentucky
South Carolina
9-game conference schedule to include:
3 members of your pod
4 members of another pod (rotates pods yearly)
1 rival member from other 2 pods
Take SCar for example - they'd play UGA, UF, and UK, plus the Central pod (Bama, Aub, Tenn, Vandy), plus say like Mizzou and Ole Miss. The next year would be only Bama from the Central, Mizzou again, and then the entire South pod (so all of Ark, LSU, MSU, Ole Miss). Rotate again the next year and within 3 years you've played every team.
Pod winners seeded 1-4 based on conf record and tie-breakers. 1 hosts 4, 2 hosts 3. Winners to a conference title game, which if the other conferences go 16 teams with a similar format, basically becomes an automatic CFP Quarterfinal. You could have both winners advance automatically to the Playoff (maybe a total 8-12 teams at this point: 2 autos from each conference plus at-large teams). Still play the conference title game for Playoff seeding and to be able to claim a conference championship.
Just some options. Kinda mapped this out on my own a while back and have all 4 "Superconferences" with pods. Hoping something like this happens!
That's how I'd do it. I know lots of other versions out there.

Could be good, but gotta think of an alternate word than “pod”. It sounds like a subset of the band camp I’m at right now.

That works for me. Way back in 2011 when conference realignment was happening, I thought it would end up with four 16-team conferences.
I like your pod concept.
Doesn't matter. Won't happen. Too much money involved.
