Why are we losing players in basketball who were getting

May 4, 2022, 7:18 PM

good playing time here?

As hard as it is for a player to make it as a pro in FOOTBALL, it is even HARDER to make it to the NBA. Far fewer spots available, even with the addition of the "G" League. So, a player who enters the transfer portal in basketball, after several college seasons, is NOT going to be drafted by the NBA. It just ain't gonna happen. Too much "One and Done", or at the very least "Two and Done" talent on the hoof for it to happen each year.

Take a player like Nick Honor, for instance. Not to pick on him, but if he thinks he has any future in the NBA, he is majorly deluding himself. So, why transfer away from Clemson, even if he could post slightly higher stats elsewhere? I would argue that he could never have a better overall college "experience" ANYWHERE that would beat Clemson. And, pundits be dammed, the ACC is STILL the premier college basketball league, even in a down year.

So, something else must be at the heart of players bailing out like rats trying to desert the Titanic. Perhaps they see some writing on the wall that we are not privy to.

Our coach is underpaid and our facilities are lacking.

If you pay Brad more we automatically start getting better players and win more games or so I’m told.

Honor wants to start and get consistent minutes.

May 4, 2022, 7:49 PM

He wasn’t going to get that here with Dawes, Hunter, etc.

If Honor had known Dawes was leaving, I don’t think Honor would have left. But as things stood at the end of the season, and Honor being too inconsistent to get consistent playing time, he left. He had his degree and wanted a chance to play more.

Dawes left because he wanted to be closer to home and play for his uncle, Shaheen Holloway.

His uncle? Where did you find that nugget?

And Honor could have taken his name out of the portal at anytime.

I stand by my previous decision ti not disparage the MBB program at Clemson but it is not looking good for CBB make it or break it year. Agree?

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Holloway isn’t really his uncle.

May 4, 2022, 10:10 PM

My post was a joke, because Dawes said that Seton Hall “feels like family” and sometimes refers to Holloway as uncle or unc.

I do think playing in front of his family this last year, including his son, was important to Dawes.

If we can get a good PG from the portal, I believe we can have a very good year. I certainly would’ve liked to keep Honor and Dawes, but neither are consistent difference makers. Galloway is an upgrade over Honor IMO. We just need a PG that is an upgrade over Dawes.

I feel great about the other guys we have coming back. Getting Hunter Tyson to return for his graduate year is huge, and Chase Hunter should have a good year next year too. I expect continued growth from PJ Hall. We have some other good pieces, including Hemenway, Schieffelin, Middlebrooks, and our new freshmen.

Galloway is an upgrade from Honor at back up PG? Galloway is not a PG. lol

I didn’t say that Galloway is an upgrade at backup PG.

May 5, 2022, 8:22 AM

I said that he is an upgrade.

What Galloway gives up as a ball handler, he more than makes up for in other areas.

As I said, we need a PG from the portal, but this doom and gloom from some people because we lost Honor and Dawes is ridiculous. It’s nothing more than “fans” trying to be negative about the program.

What a joke. Negative?
What is positive about both guards with starters minutes - transferring? Dawes ended up going to a coach who recruited him years ago. Sure, but did not like his current coach after 3 years - to stay. And if he simply wanted to go there, why did he visit other schools like UGA?
What is positive about 2 assistant coaches leaving for lateral positions and money?
What is positive about Jaelin L committing and then leaving?

Quit pretending everything BB does is wonderful or there are not negatives, or it is someone else’s fault.

It is what it is. We support our team, but facts are facts.

Would have been talking to each other about their decisions to be leaving.

Wow that happened a while ago. You just now upset about it. Not sure the ACC is the premier league either but everyone can have an opinion

Who’s the premier league then in CBB?***
