Just a sweaty, breathless existential struggle.

Nov 25, 2021, 5:53 AM

Growing up in Texas there was the Red River Shootout between us and the Sooners.

We lead that one 62-50-5.

Then there was UT/Aggie until Aggie took his ball and went to the SEC.

Horns owned Aggie in that one: 76-37-5

It got so lopsided from an all-time series record it came to feel like playing keep away with your little brother:

For him, it's a sweaty, breathless existential struggle. For you, it's just kind of amusing.

Sure, he may find a way to snag the ball every now and again and go off feeling validated for a little while but mostly, we know how this is gonna turn out.

Ive always wondered why Clemson/SoCar had that same kinda feelin'.

Now, I understand:

71-42-4.

FWIW and to put it in context, here are some other rivalry all-time records ---->

Mich/Ohio State:
Michigan leads 58-51-6.

Auburn/Alabama:
Bama leads 47-37-1.

Wisc/Minn:
Wisc leads 62-60-8

Navy/Army:
Navy leads 61-53-7.

Princeton/Yale:
Yale leads 78-55-10.

I had done some research on the Bama-Auburn rivalry a few

days ago. I was actually surprised that Bama only has ten more wins in the series than Auburn. The feeling that Bama dominates that rivalry is not bourne out by the results.

Butt, Clemson DOES dominate our rivalry with those battery tossing maroons in Cootlumbia. And it IS more than substantiated by the series record. :)

Even more impressive: the game was not played in Clemson until 1960.

Clemson is 52-33 in Columbia, 19-9 at home.

How bad do you have to be to lose 52 Home games to your rival? That's about as bad as Kansas vs Oklahoma!

That got me looking.

Oklahoma is 38-15 @ Lawrence, KS.

I can't imagine anyone in D1 has lost more home games to one team than SouKarliner has lost to Clemson. Anybody know?

In terms of rivalry games ... did some arithmatickin' here while I smoke Thanksgiving ribs and watch Auburn/Loyola hoops and you might be on to something:

Clemson's won 49 (give or take) times in Columbia.

Texas has won about 25 times in College Station.

Michigan's won 27ish in Columbus. Ohio State about same in Ann Arbor.

WI's won about same in Minneapolis.

TX/OU's been neutral site as long as I can remember.
Auburn/Rednecks was a neutral site for many years too.
Like Navy/Army.

So I think you could lay safe money on SoCar having the worst showing at home against their rival.

Sad, really. So, so, sad.
