Bradley LeCroy

Jun 10, 2015, 10:35 AM

What are the chances that DRad actually stays in house and gives Bradley the head coaching job? He obviously lacks head coaching experience, but you can't deny what the guy has done for us over the last three years at least in the way of recruiting. Also, what are the chances he stays on staff if the hire comes from elsewhere?

Just a guess

But I think it's much more likely that Bradley stays as an assistant/recruiting coordinator rather than getting a promotion to head coach. Just not sure he is ready for that move.

I really respect that Lecroy is both interested in the job, yet equally open to remaining on the staff if a new coach is brought in. That tells me he's
1. All about Clemson
2. Will do what it takes, even as head coach
3. Yet realizes he has more to learn, too

Those are strong attributes and worthy of the proper consideration.

Have no problem with Lecroy and really hope he stays on as assistant..think he'd be over his head as HC

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Maybe he sees this as last chance for 20 years

Jun 10, 2015, 11:33 AM [ in reply to Just a guess ]

He seems to have serious loyalty for us. And he might see it that if he doesn't push for HC now the next hire may have the same stay that Wilhelm and Leggett had. So either he's happy as asst for a long time or he has to move on to be HC.

I wouldn't be opposed, but I think its highly unlikely. As a matter of fact, I think it is 50/50 on whether he stays at all. And I say that because:

1) DRad can't guarantee him employment simply because the new guy will be allowed to assemble a staff, and

2) I may be reading too much into it, but if he knew he was staying in any capacity, it is highly unlikely that we would have any decommits. He is that good of a recruiter. he would spin the Jack firing so that it wouldn't deter recruits.

Go to wccpfm.com and listen to the interview Bradley gave Roy on Monday. Guy has a plan in place and I wouldn't have a problem if he's the HC. he also made it blatantly clear that if not HC he wants to stay in some capacity. He's a bright upcoming coach, very strong recruiter and revealed in the interview that he's been busting the athletic departments tail for a few years about the types of things holding Cu back, i.e. endowments, upgrades, etc. Sounded very familiar to another young coach on campus!

The one statement he made that stood out to me was that he's always made notes of what he liked and didn't like about the coaches he worked for and how he'd do it different if given the chance. He made a comment along the lines that the program is not sinking and it can be put back in the right direction quickly. Very optimistic IMO.

He'd have to do what Dabo did

Jun 10, 2015, 12:04 PM

and bring in really good assistants (and pay them). LeCroy has been a good recruiter and our hitting has improved the last couple of years, but we'll need an excellent fielding coach and a fantastic pitching coach.

Re: He'd have to do what Dabo did

That's true...I felt all along it wasn't necessarily Jack, but maybe the lack of good Assistants that can develop the players. Let's be honest the only real Asst. JL has had recently is LeCroy. The others were former players but they haven't proven they are ready to be coaches. Baseball players have to continually develop esp. if they want to keep their job/position. I will say that was one thing to be critical of JL, too loyal. You can't have a guy you declare as a leader bat .180 for the season or continue to make error after error. He can lead form the dugout until he gets right!

If he was such a great assistant why have they not improved since he has been here? Not sure why this guy is getting a free pass by the fan base. I feel he is being used by the AD to do damage control for recruiting and has NO chance at the HC job.

Hitting and recruiting class rankings have improved

Jun 10, 2015, 2:46 PM

those were the 2 areas he was tasked with.

They have had 1 good year hitting since he has been here.I would expect him to have some good recruiting classes since that seems to be his strength.

Re: Hitting and recruiting class rankings have improved

Jun 10, 2015, 3:00 PM

I'm not even necessarily in favor of LeCroy as the replacement. I'm just saying the biggest weaknesses the last couple of years have been the bullpen and fielding, and those two areas were handled by other coaches. Hitting hasn't been great since the introduction of the BBCOR bats, but I think they got a little better each of the last 2 years.

If LeCroy was in charge of base-running in addition to hitting however, he's got some 'splainin to do.

Class rankings really haven't improved

Jun 10, 2015, 3:25 PM [ in reply to Hitting and recruiting class rankings have improved ]

if you go by perfect game.

Re: Class rankings really haven't improved

4 Juniors taken in the first 6 rounds and that class was Lecroys first true recruiting class since when he joined in 2010 most of the 2011 (seniors this year) were already spoken for and committed.

Next year Eli White and Chris Okey will for sure be likely top 5 rounds.

Recruiting has not been the issue. Bradley is one of the best recruiters in the game.

Re: Bradley LeCroy

If LeCroy has gone a long way in improving recruiting, he deserves consideration to continue to serve either as or under the new head coach. If he has not coached enough, being an associate coach would not be a bad idea.
